The man in this shop saved my life!
Basically there was a massive stain on the wall that I tried to wash - big mistake - cut a long story short, I had to match the paint.
I dont know what I would have done if I hadnt found this man. He is the senior sales guy and what he doesnt know about paint isnt worth knowing.
So there I was with a piece of the wall that I thought was a kind of magnolia..well, if you've ever tried to match magnolia you'll know what I mean......THERE ARE HUNDREDS....
So, I was explaining that the stain this, and the wall that and that I thought the colour was blah blah.
He seemed unconvinced, then he asks me about the age of the house, when it was decorated blah and then announces that he's going to get the exact colour and asked me to wait.
When he came back he had the EXACT shade!
To cut a long story short - as he explained to me: If the room was painted by professional builders/decorators and the shade of magnolia you're trying to match is lighter than the standard magnolia, then you're simply looking for SOFT WHITE in Crown, aka GARDENIA in Dulux. This is because as they're British Standard colours and real easy to mix if the builder runs out of paint he can just go and get some more mixed to exact colour specifications.
(in other words a builder is not going to stand around with colour swatch cards, batting his eyelids saying oooh, what do I feel like today??? moonshine-cheddar-crust or oak-soaked-vanilla?............as I thought in my complete-panic-stricken ignorancelol)
and they do all the mixing there!
I cannot praise this man enough, real 'old school'!
