6 reviews for Club Quarters, Trafalgar Square
All Reviews
This is a wonderful location. My husband and I normally stay in Trafalgar Square just because it is so centrally located to everything (within reason). You can walk around to key places and its not far from Covenant Garden. St. Martin's in the Field Church is just up the street and plays great orchestra music in the evenings.
The hotel is nice, but the rooms are small (by USA standards). However, the hotel makes a wonderful use of the space. Staff is friendly and helpful. Club Quarters has a "iiving room" that offers comouter stations, printing, espresso machine as a part of the rate paid.
This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at the Club Quarters near Trafalgar Square and is nearly perfectly located being walking distance to most theatres, Piccadilly Circus, Leiscester Square, Covent Garden, etc. The rooms are on par with other hotels in London (but small by US standards) but make really good use of the space. They have modern amenities like flat panel TV, wired and wireless internet (although the wireless can be flaky), and generally comfortable. The hotel has a fitness room, members lounge (with computer and printer), and independent restaurant in the same building. The service is below average with issues likely having to call three times to get the room cleaned and drycleaning not done properly. They are quick to rectify the problem and even gave us wine and a basket of goodies for one issue. The price is moderate for London especially for the location but big important note...if you are staying for the weekend (e.g. Friday through Monday) make sure to negotiate the discounted rate up front. Overall I will likely stay here again (because of the location), corporate preference and reasonable price.
NOTE: Boyd's, the independent restaurant in the building, should be avoided because of cost and very poor service. Head up the street to Garfunke'ls or across the street to Sherlock Holmes for better fare.
Club Quarters is a members hotel. The experience you have (and the price you pay) can depend greatly on whether you are a member.
Now, whether you are a member or book this hotel through Travelocity or some other site, the rooms are clean and modern. There are at least three sizes of room, and the smallest would be a bit tight for a couple and has a shower only. Don't expect to spend a lot of time in the room. The largest rooms include a kitchenette with two electric burners, a full bath, and a couch.
Now, the members vs non- experience. Members pay about half the price of non-members, and get priority in renewing rooms. Your company has to sign up with the chain and agree contractually to a certain number of bookings per year. It's a smart business model.
If you're a non-member, you may have a hard time extending your stay, and the price you get from the hotel may be much higher than your initially booked rate. I went from a v. large room for around £200/night to the smallest room for £250 the next night (the hotel had filled up, and they weren't making any of the rooms available to travel agents).
In terms of location, excellent. Charing Cross Station is a 7 minute walk from the hotel, Trafalgar Square is a block away, and Soho and Leicester Square and Chinatown are all an easy walk.
There is a downside to the hotel. The view, or frequent lack of. One of the four rooms I saw, 917, had a view entirely blocked by a chimney. Another faced an enclosed - airshaft isn't the word, but definitely a nothing space bounded by the backsides of other buildings.
Three of the four rooms I saw had small windows relative to their size, so don't expect a tremendous amount of natural light. This is a fine hotel for sleeping in and working in, but not a hang-out.
While this is not an uber-posh hotel, it was very comfortable and the staff was five star all the way.
The location could not be beat. Buckingham Palace is just a short walk down "The Mall" or through the beautiful park full of flowers. National Gallery is right outside your front door, and the Charing Cross tube station is a 2 minute walk.
Our room had a view of Parliament's clocktower that houses Big Ben!
For the price, Club Quarters Trafalgar Square is the best possible choice, hands down.
Come stay in the center of things!
The location is perfect for people interested in sights and things in Central London. Northumberland Street is right off Trafalgar Square, very close to the Underground (Charing Cross and Embankment Stations). The National Gallery is located nearby as well as the London Eye, just to name a few close attractions.
The hotel itself is not as grand as others I have stayed at. There is no doorman for instance. But one less person to tip right?
It's kind of odd, but it's actually two hotels in the one building. There is the Grand and there is Club Quarters.
The decor is very traditional, sorta bland but it's ok. There is a restaurant on the first floor, but it always seemed so empty and I really don't like going to empty places, so I really didn't try it.
The rooms are adequate, on the smaller side however. Our room had a nice view of the London Eye which was nice. There is a HDTV which was nice, and what was even nicer was that there was free WiFi in the hotel. Although slow the WiFi connection was very useful.
In value this place is great. You have all the attractions, Piccadilly Circus, Covenant Gardens, Regent Street etc., all within walking distance!
What a great location for a hotel! Blocks away from Buckingham Palace, steps away from Trafalgar Square, a stone's throw to the Thames, and around the corner from Westminster and the Houses of Parliament! There's also great restaurants, shopping, and theatres within walking distance (Soho, Leicester Square, and Piccadilly Circus). The rooms are small - let me preface that by saying I'm American - but cozy. The staff is uber helpful and delightful. Book online, through Orbitz or Expedia and save, save, save!! One great bonus for Philadelphians like myself - Ben Franklin's house is only 2 blocks away!!
