If you live in Cardiff, you have an obligation to go to Metros at least once! A pilgrimage to Metros is the story Chaucer never wrote. Honest to God.
It's stinky, it can be smutty, it's sweaty, it's dark and dank and damp, it's either empty or rammed, completely aweful or utterly fantastic - you can either have the best night of your life in here or the worst. Metros sure is individual and quite the experience.
The best nights I had were made up of the following ingredientsbubble machine, strobe lights, smoke machine that smelled of freeze-dried strawberries, heavy metal leading into more popular rock, finishing up with indie and some prodigy, dancing with your drinks, getting in the 'pit' being shoved by some mosher and shoving right back, pogoing to Cyprus Hill and downing shooters at the bar.
Long live Metros. Long may it drive people crazy!

This basement club has not aged well and with it's underage/very young clientele it may put a lot of older clubbers off.
Drinks can be quite expensive unless you go on a night where drinks deals are available.
Wide variety of alternative nights with the odd splashing of occasional speciality nights inc ska/punk etc.
As many other reviewers have mentioned, the smell in there is attrocious and it is excessively damp but it isn't without a certain charm and can be quite fun if you go with a big group.

I used to go there when I was 16, a bottle of lamot was a pund and they played rage against the machine every night. I went there more recently and it was almost exactly the same, only drawback is that the smoking ban has stpopped the masking of the sweat/damp/farts/general unclean smell so be warned.

Oh yeah the cloackroom lost my Jacket once which really annoyed me.

Metros is an alternative music venue, so expect a grungy interior. Many improvements have been made to the decor over the past two years I've been in Cardiff (a lick of paint here and there, etc.) and it is noticeable.

If you want your emo/indie/chart fix, Metros is the place for you. If you want a metal fix, it isn't, although they will probably start up a metal night soon (seeing as there isn't THAT much competition in Cardiff anymore).

The club runs a number of different nights. The most notorious of these are Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

On Wednesdays, you can get double (house) spirit & mixer for £1.19, bottles for £1.29 and pints for £1.39, and listen to 'chart' emo and indie, with a few rocky tracks. There's usually a good crowd of relatively young people: late teens, early twenties, that sort of thing. Lots of locals and students.

On Fridays, it's two-for-one cocktails (two for £3.75) with a number of other drinks promotions (such as cheap bottles) until 12am. The musics a bit more varied, with more in the way of rock/metal played.

I never attend on Saturdays, as it's emo and indie night, but I hear (from my friends who love that sort of music) it's a good night.

All in all, if you like cheap drinks and old fashioned, grungy alternative venues that don't have the look and feel of the Kaiser Chiefs in a wine bar, then Metros is the place for you. If it IS the place for you, you'll be guaranteed a pretty good night.

When I was at uni it was my favourite club. Great music. It's a very basic set up, no airs and graces just rockin music and cheap drinks.

This used to be an amazing alternative music venue abot ten years ago, even with the well deserved name of sweatros and the fact that it is a dingy basement type club. Unfortunately in recent years it has become more and more commercialised and aimed at students. The music is no longer what i would call alternative and tends to be more indie and chart. The crowd is very young and the drinks aren't great, this place is only good if you are looking for a cheap student night out.

Metros is strangely appealing for a dirty little basement club that stinks of sweaty bodies and stale wee.

It is a rock club that caters for those who prefer rock/metal/emo on a night out. It has a laid back anything goes atmosphere, sells cheap drinks and is a good night out.

It's very easy to have a drunken night out here. In fact it's usually better if you're drunk.
Music ranges from great to awful in a matter of seconds (seriously, enough with the pop music, irony is a dead scene) but Cardiff wouldn't be Cardiff without 'tros.

As niknakb said, Metro's has a strange appeal considering as others have pointed out it can get extremely sticky, does have a bit of a damp/sweaty smell, is very basic compared to other clubs and in some ways has all the hallmarks of a basement club.

HOWEVER, as has been said in other reviews, they have some excellent drink offers and IMO, they have the most reasonable prices for drink compared to most other nightclubs in Cardiff.

Put it this way - if you can look past some of the negatives and go with a good group, you can have one of the best nights out here. They play a far better selection of music than most places (most of the time), there is nothing remotely pretentious about the place and unlike a lot of other clubs, you don't seem to get hassled by 50 Cent wannabe or pervy types.

Good old Metros, I first went here about 10 years ago, but it still draws me in a few times a year. Friday nights are good.

Good place, nice staff. BUT, the owners need to get a new manager. He is rude and has know idea how to run the place. He dresses like a hippy ( not how you would expect a manager to dress). I was sat on a sofa in the entrance with my friend ( Who had drank a little bit to much) she wasnt causing any trouble or being ill, just sleeping. The manager came over and said " best if you leave soon! i agreed and said thats fine. 30 seconds later he came back and said " i will pound your face in if you dont leave ". Very bad coming from a manager. If just ask i would of left. There was no need for that. The staff there seem to know that he isnt doing a good job and i just hope the owners find out before he runs it into the ground !!

I'm giving it 3 stars purely on the basis that indie chicks are quite happy to kiss you even if you've been sick.
