I must say, there are a lot of Claire's in this city. This is the third I've come across, and I'm not looking on purpose. Little girls like dressing up in cheap jewellery and coloured hair extensions, you say? Inconceivable.
Anyway, this one's got all the usual stuff: plastic jewellery, hair ties, costumes (particularly fairy wings), scarves, boots, winter wear, and
Claire's line of make-up, which includes nail polish. I noticed a few extras in this location: neon shoelaces, sunglasses, non-prescription regular frames, and ring watches! There's also some Hannah Montana and Winnie the Pooh items above and beyond the standard Hello Kitty and Sponge Bob.
There's a few candy temptations near the counter: lollipops, bags of sweets and interestingly shaped Pez dispensers. This might be a better location to check out even though it's a bit smaller - no other shoppers came in whilst I looked around.
A bigger branch than the one in Churchill Square Shopping Centre, Claire's is a haven for young and teenage girls looking for accessories. They stock everything from hair-bands and flurescent socks to ear-rings, bracelets, necklaces, scarves, hats and gloves. In summer they sell flip-flops too and in winter, their own take on converse sneakers.
Rammed from dusk til dawn at weekends, Claire's is clearly a good money-spinner and they've dominated the marketplace by making sure they constantly introduce new lines. Last year, it was all skulls and guitars. Now, they have more plain but gothic designs alongside the usual pink and spangly ones.
A word of warning to parents: individual items are cheap but once you start piling items into the little basket they give you at the entrance, you'll be surprised how much it adds upto!
