A very pleasant place to be, and very friendly staff. I found it quite amusing that the staff were eager to get me to have breakfast before my friends had arrived downstairs! It was a clean place, the staff were very friendly (and seemed gutted that they couldn't accept my ID, in all fairness though it was me but wasn't 'valid ID', as it didn't bear the PASS mark).
My only gripe: the WiFi that I could not, try as I might, get working. It was patchy as best, but I wasn't there on business terms, rather a DJ meet, so WiFi problems weren't the end of the world.
I will definitely stay there again if I am back up in Dunfermline. £32 for a single room? Done deal!
I stayed here for one night w/a friend. The night before I had stayed in a hotel around the corner, which was like the Four Seasons compared to the City Hotel!
The redeeming qualities:
+ the gentleman working the night shift was a darling
+ free Wifi (but only in the lobby)
+ attached restaurant & pub
+ included breakfast
- tiny room that looked like it hadn't been cleaned since 1902
- duvet cover and blanket made me scared there were bedbugs
- tiny, tiny bathroom with an awkward step in it (which I forgot was there and almost killed myself on--I wonder how many dead bodies have been found in that bathroom because that was dangerous!)
- no lift, so go ahead and carry all your bags up the stairs
- breakfast only till 9AM and be prepared for a guy that seems a little angry about working there
- Wifi only works in like a 20 foot radius in the lobby
Christmas party night here, so comments on function room, bar and food served downstairs. Rather a small room not much of a dancefloor once all the tables were laid out. The bar and bar area is small but were a welcome break from the disco! Food served was average as these places are when they feed the christmas masses!
I've stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks now and the second week was only due to lack of rooms in other places. The food is below average and the rooms are clean but there are several problems.
Firstly, the seagulls will wake you up at about 5am every morning!
Secondly, and this is the real reason I'm never staying here again The hotel offers free wifi. Great right? Well no. It doesn't work (I work in IT so I know it's not my equipment) I reported it not working the first week to be told Oh, nobody has complained about it before, I'll get someone to have a look. However, when I reported it AGAIN the following week (to the same person) I was told Oh, nobody else has complained about it not working, I'll get our IT to look at it
So yes, I'm highly suspicious that the wifi actually exists at all and they are telling porkies about getting it fixed!
