Cineworld ain't what it used to be. For one thing it stopped doing the really excellent coffee it used to have, and that has pretty much wrecked visits for me. Seeing a film at the flicks isn't the same without a cuppa hot java in hand - not once you've got used to it anyway. Plus they used to have much cheaper sweets and snacks, then I think it all got standardised and franchised/outsourced, the prices doubled, the quality fell and the portions halved. Boo!
I think the last film I saw here was Serenity, Joss Whedon's excellent space-cowboy romp. It was utterly ruined by a ladyChav and her horde of miniChavs trooping in halfway though (talking loudly), proceeding to carry on talking (and even shouting) through the rest of the film, while swapping food (and discussing their swaps, at high volume). She took offence to this being mentioned afterwards and rained down verbal abuse upon us. Lovely, lovely people.
I suppose one could take the view that a cinema is a cinema and there isn't much to choose between them and in a way that's true as far as watching a film goes.
The thing is, a trip to the cinema isn't just about the film it's the whole package the parking, the ticket and admission system, the refreshments, the information.
So, the two things that spoil the Cineworld experience for me?
Firstly, a number of staff who obviously didn't want to be there (and/or were extremely shy about talking to members of the public evidenced by their slow and half hearted response to customers waiting) and secondly, the absolutely stupid, urine extracting prices they charge for their frankly average refreshments.
Decent cinema local to Wakefield. Its expensive, both the admission and food but the screens are decent with good seats.
Multi-screen cinema. Shows the latest releases. Kids shows at 10.30am on a Saturday morning showing older kids films for £1 per person. Reasonable sized car park but fills up quickly.
Reduced priced tickets on 'cheap Tuesdays'.
As common with cinemas these day the refreshments are expensive, but they do a kids box with pop corn, a drink and milky way mini stars for about £3.
Cineworld Wakefield offers several screens. I would recommend going on Wednesday's if you are an Orange mobile customer as you are entitled to 2 for 1 entry with the appropriate text on your phone! There are a choice of resteraunts either side of Cineworld, Frankie & Benny's and Nandos.
