I have never been a member of a gym. I walked into Changes to attend a Tai Chi class that happens in their studio on a Friday and was struck by the friendly feel and warm welcome I recieved from Michael, the owner. I joined the same day and although I haven't been going for long, I still feel the same way. All the staff are lovely and full of encouragement. Chris took me through all the equipment on my first time in and Marian has been full of encouragement.
Changes is a small independant gym and so probably doesn't have all the facilities somewhere like David Lloyd has (no pool for example), but the cost of the membership reflects that. They also do a rolling monthly direct debit which you can cancel at any time so although you are bound month by month, you are not tied into a contract for years. This, for me, is enough to keep me going but not feel like I am locked in. Having said that, they have everything I need (including an ace shower - I want a bed there), so I see no reason to change any time soon. Go have a chat to them and I'm sure you will feel the same way I did. See you there!!
As a regular gym bunny, I wasnt sure what to expect from a smaller club (i'm used to training in the bigger clubs). I'm glad I popped in for a "free trial" as I was suprised at what a difference it made to my workout- I didnt have to queue for the equipment! yay!!
I was offered the chance to have a free one-to-one programming session with one of the trainers, but decided to just do my own thing....though it's nice to know the option is there if I start to lose motivation! I may even book in for a personal training session at some point (especially as their introductory rate is only £18 a session).
All in all, Im really happy to be finally training properly again. No queues, clean equiptment (not like the usual skanky mess that my last gym was left in) and really lovely people. Plus the added bonus of NO CONTRACT!!
Fab place, fab people....and hopefully a fab body at the end of it! ;-)
