Casino is my kind of vintage shop. While a bit of organisation has gone in to the place to make it easy to look around in here, the shop has not lost any of that messy charm or smell (yes smell!) that makes a vintage shop so unique.
The staff in here are very helpful and clearly love the place they work. Last time I visited I tried on a dress but felt it looked a bit frumpy. One of the sales assistants took it upon herself to help me accesorise the dress with a belt and some jewelry and all of a sudden it became my new favourite outfit.
My only criticism of Casino would be that it is a little too small to compete with some of the better known vintage stores. The stock turn around is a bit slow and it's likely that if you visit a couple of times in short succession you will see a lot of the same stuff. Nonetheless i do love it here and I'm always impressed by the service I get.
Not one of the best shops on this street but if you're in the area it's definitely worth popping your head in. They seem to sell a mixture of both new little designers, cheaper bargain clothes and some great vintage finds.
The problem I have with this shop is that it's just too small. You can't fit more than about 4 people into the shop at once and it often has baby buggies crammed in the door. One thing they do well is accessories, great ladies shoes and belts, I've eyed up some pretty sexy vintage cowboy boots yet have never liked anything enough to actually buy something from this shop. If we weren't spoilt by loads of other vintage shops in the area I would give this place more star. Sorry Casino - you're gonna have to try harder.
Vintage clothing on Church Street! Its fun to browse, and you might pick up some great accessories. The boots look particularly good, and they've already been broken in!
The dresses are fun, some a little too old fashioned to wear to a party, but would look good on older women. There are some fantastic summer dresses in silk and cotton. There are also some woolen jackets and sweaters that look interesting.
There are clothes for both men and women, so its certainly worth a browse, and a good spot to find a great present.
Although Stoke Newington is an area that has encountered a vast influx of middle class knobs moving in and opening candle shops and such like over the years, it is still possible to pick up a relative bargain here and Casino is one of the best places to do it.
It sells vintage and new (vintage on wooden hangers, new on plastic) and has a really nice selection of clothes and boots every time I visit. The new stock is quite creative too, with adorable floaty dresses made from vintage material and cute baby gro's with witty little slogans on them. The staff are very friendly, in fact the last time I went in, the girl waved so enthusiastically she almost fell off her stool.
Casino is a store that manages to be genuinely cool in a 50's rock'n'roll kind of way, without being cheesy. The vintage vibe stems from the relatively small collection of clothes and various paraphernalia in the store. I guess that its the small amount of stock, as opposed to the overwhelming amount that other vintage stores have, that makes it what it is.
I haven't found their collection of clothing to be particularly amazing, but whenever I go with friends, they always seem to find something worth buying. I however just like to hang out and listen to the good tunes, and perhaps flick through one of the old books that aren't for sale.
Whether or not you find something you like, I'm sure you will have an enjoyable experience. Needless to say, it is definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.
A great little boutique tucked away in a corner of Stoke Newington Church Street. This shop opend in May 2004 as a small independent vintage shop which has blossomed since it's birth.
Casino's stock ranges from vintage clothes for women, men and children, to recycled and restyled clothing. There's a great selection of unique shirts, jumpers, dresses and coats for both men and women.
There's also a selection of jewellery made by different designers which have a vintage and unique feel. Perfect if you're looking for the right accessory to go with you're new vintage dress/coat etc!
Casino also stocks a qwerky range of kidswear including Nippaz with Attitude which include a lot of very funny/cool slogan t-shirts for your wee one - perfect for every well dressed Stokey nipper!
Can get busy at weekends and a little cramped for browsing, but well worth the effort if you're looking for a unique look.
