This cafe has a reputation for being quite slow at service and I've been there often but this Sunday I went along again and I was very pleasantly surprised.
This is wholesome food, food I really like, comforting and yummy and food that it looking after you. Typical Glastonbury. I think the cafe is veggie entirely. I ate a South Indian curry with delicious spices and turmeric brown rice and lots of salad. Just what I fancied! And for pud I had a very tasty crumble with apples and blackberries and cinamon and other spices.
I felt very well looked after. I was dining on my own and I noticed other women here dining on there own. It was not only full of women dining on their own though. There was a really nice mixture of people, having lively conversations. A really nice atmosphere.
And the service? Charming. Personable and direct, and surprisingly for restaurants everywhere, caring. Recommended!
The menu hasn't changed in more than 30 years! The service is usually very poor: don't go there if you are in a hurry.
Despite the ethos advertised, the food is not what you think it is: the quality of the ingredients is very poor and I have been told by a former employee that they use microwave ovens.
The good thing it has is the location: it is a great place to meet up with your friends. Just don't go there too often because you really get bored with the menu.
Good selection of veggie and vegan options, plus one of the only spots you can get Wi-FI. I enjoyed both lunch and dinner here, especially dinner with live music courtesy of a singer/guitarist.
Very nice quiet tea shop/art-gift gallery. I've only stopped in here for drinks and cake, but the lunch/dinner menu looks really nice. Nice helpful staff; tidy pretty shop! Highly recommended. :D positiveaffirmationsanda…
Can't recommend this place at all unfortunately. Didn't get anywhere near the tables, we were left waiting at the counter for 5 minutes and the staff didn't even look our way, let alone speak to us. Very rude indeed.
It needs a good clean.
It hasn't changed in 15 years, yes, they do use microwaves not good at the prices they are charging for not cooking the food by hand.
I won't go again, had one of their specials it must have been cooked hours and hours before, had to make sure I wasn't in Morocco because a toilet was needed 20 minutes after eating here. The carpet is in need of a good clean, along with the kitchen. Yes, the people who own it can be quite rude and abrasive if you ask questions
The ridiculous service is one thing, just try enquiring about anything ! You would not believe just how rude they can be ! Make no mistake, they aren't just touchy about being asked about where the food is, they'll hurl abuse at you about damn near anything. I thought Glastonbury was some sort of, "love and peace" place, well, not in Galatea it isn't !
Staff lovely, you must be joking. I'm sure faresu means well, but so do I. The staff, probably the owners, are anything but lovely.
We've just come back from a weekend in Glastonbury ... and having enjoyed a lovely meal in Cafe Galatea on our last trip, went in for a meal soon after we arrived on Friday. The food was, again, lovely, the portions were enormous, the organic Pinot Grigio was wonderful, the staff were charming, the service was certainly not as slow as others seem to have experienced - we had a delightful evening. So on Saturday night, we returned - it was even better ... an extremely accomplished guitarist was playing for his supper ... and part way through the evening, he was joined by an amazing flautist ... two wonderful musicians playing for the love of it ... totally enchanting. We will be back, next time we visit that part of the World.
yes the service is slow - but the food and the staff are lovely. there aren't many restaurants you can visit just once a year and be remembered and welcomed back like old friends. can't recommend it enough!
