For an English Mexican restaurant? Amazing. They even have sombreros for you to wear. The waiters aren't that great with their Spanish, though, but its England...what can you expect?
Easily the best place in Canterbury to grab some Mexican food!
Cafe des Amis has a really intimate atmosphere and is great for meeting with friends.
Last time I was here I had a seafood risotto and it was great, the portion was huge and all of the ingredients were ridiculously fresh.
I'd say they're not too expensive food wise but you do tend to pay for it with the drinks. Definitely somewhere I'd recommend if you're eating with friends.
If you'd rather splash out Cafe Des Soleil is owned by the same people and is just down the road!
WOW... and I'm not even a huge fan of Mexican food.
Cafe Des Amis Du Mexique is located in the little town of Canterbury where my friend and I stopped in for dinner on our way back from Dover back to London. It's located right on the corner so it's relatively easy to find. The restaurant itself is cozy and the service was very welcoming and actually good for European standards.
We started off with the ceviche trio and it was fantastic. Make sure to order a side of tortilla chips to enjoy them with. Our main entree were the prawn fajitas and this was where the magic happened. They came hot and sizzling to our table and were the juiciest and plumpest prawns I've ever seen! The sidekicks of guac, beans, sour cream, tortillas, etc came too. We went to making our fajitas and enjoyed every last bite of it.
If all Mexican tasted as good as this, I could eat it everyday. Two thumbs up for this place!
I went here to celebrate my roommates birthday and I wish I discovered it sooner (her birthday was in May and I was leaving to go back to the States in June). I thought I could only get decent Mexican food at the Texas Embassy in London but I was so wrong.
The most important dish to me when it comes to Mexican food is being able to get black beans.. and this place has it! Not even the Texas Embassy has black beans. So if you crave Mexican food, or ever wanted to try it, this is the only place where you will have a great experience.
Although the food is a little overpriced in this restaurant the portions are large and the quality is excellent. The cocktails, although small and pricy were also very nice.
The restaurant itself is very quaintly decorated with lots to look at on the walls, however we found it to be a bit cramped and the two guys in our party did not have a lot of room for movement.
Lovely Mexican food with interesting decor. The service was really friendly and fast. Recommended for a good evening out.
This mexican restaurant is always very lively; the walls are decorated with very bright, artisan art, and the different-sized tables nestle corner to corner, in two different rooms. The clientele is a mixture of students and locals; lots of choice of fajitas, which are brought piping hot to your table, served with all the usual trimmings; guacamole, salsa, sour cream and refried beans. Salmon in coconut is very good. Alcohlic and non-alcoholic cocktails go down well.
OMG - My favourite Mexcan restaurant ever. Have been eating there since about 1996 - and it is amazing.
The service is friendly and fast, the atmosphere is buzzing with the chatter of the customers (a little bit cozy in there!) and the sizzle of the dishes flying to the tables.
Everything you could want from a Mexican - the pina colada cocktails are to die for!!
Really nice food. The service was fast and efficient. The early bird menu was reasonable very yummy! The walls have very funky pictures :) and the atmosphere is cosy. Would be good for couples and groups
great food, great atmosphere what more could you ask for there was a delay with the food, but the made up for it by giving us a complementary side dish.
