Was in the area to get my bike fixed after an altercation between a van and my back wheel. Wandering around all I could find was the usual kebab and fried chicken joints which wasn't what I wanted to eat as a late lunch.
Anyway! Passed this rather unassuming place and thought I'd pop my head around the door to see if it was worth trying. Straight away I could see that this was a family run business. Spotlessly clean with a thought about decor of formica and framed newspapers.
The menu consisted mainly of breakfast items but there were a few 'specials' including turkey and veg, liver and onions and what I ordered Chicken and rice. A young lady scurried away to prepare my order. I also ordered a coffee but to my disappointment and before I could stop her the lady behind the counter had placed a teaspoon of Nescafe in my cup and started to fill it with boiling water. oh well!
Went to sit at the back where I could appreciate the decor and people watch. My meal arrived after about 5 minutes. Have to admit it looked unassuming but the first mouthful was a complete revelation. It was utterly delicious!!! Good honest home cooking at its very best. A lot of places overcook this sort of food into a sort of gloop but the fresh taste and texture were spot on here. A good portion size as well.
£5.50 with coffee...... you can't argue with that!
I'd definitely be a regular if I didn't live in North London. Will definitely be going back if I find myself in the area again!
Cosy place that is not crowded. Decoration is nice as well as the food. Prices are cheap but quality is high. They do some good job here and deserve my congratulations!
So, I thank you!
This is where I stop every morning on my way to work to get my coffee. The Italian lady who the coffee shop belongs to is very nice. Her coffee (Italian of course) is delicious and cheap (£79). Also she makes nice burgers for £1.50 and sandwiches for less than £2.00!
When you go there, it feels like home because people there know each other, all talk to each other. Very nice atmorsphere...
I have cycled passed this cafe for years. Finally went in a month ago. I have to say its the best cafe I have ever eaten in. And Olivia the Italian lady upfront who runs it with husband and daughter who cooks is a delight.
The chips are crisp, fat and perfect. With a perfectly fried egg and mug of tea all for £2.80 ..No palpable greasiness just fresh ingredients cooked well and quickly. Just tell them how you like your food and they will cook it to taste. Soft omelet? No problem. Fresh or tinned tomatoes?
And there's a coffee machine. Where else can you get Italian cappuccino for £1.20 or mug of tea for a £1?
A real treat for Saturday breakfast. In fact every day.Full dinner menu also.
Norwood Feasts' Vintage Village once month right opposite in Roseberries should encourage them to open and y'all should go eat there.
They opened it 1971. Still with its original interior of stripy Formica tables you can say a few hail Mary's by an artful shrine and admiire the many pictures and superb decor.
So these guys have been there for 42 years. They know lots about West Norwood and are happy to share it.. Embrace them they are gentle humble and truly warming. And most deserved of our custom.
