What an awesome spot! How have I been coming to this town for 6 years and never been here? Shame. On. Me.
This place is just so cool. You enter into a bar area. It's a decent size area, with bar stools, a window seat and tables and chairs. You can stay alao go to the smoking area where there is a pool table. I'm not sure if there's a fee (I'm sure there is) Ti play pool. There are a bunch of tables and couches to relax in. There is a room downstairs as well. In the pool table room next to the bar, you can smoke. But no cigarettes, only weed. I think the downstairs is where you smoke cigarettes. Anyway, this was such a great place to chill. Prices for drinks, which given the location (heart of red light district), is surprisingly cheap, €6 for cocktails. The music here is good too. Lots of places have been playing really bad music, I like what they play here. Also, free wifi! I've been here at least 4 times and will come back here every time I come to Amsterdam. You just can't beat it!!!
Pretty nice place. A friend and I spent an afternoon here for a while. Took a half a spacecake that took some time to start working but eventually did hit quite hard. Seemed like a pretty interesting and nice place, didn't encounter any of the shakedown others had mentioned but only had a tea and a spacecake.
Besides the con that the two girls working behind the bar tried to commit, this place would've been alright.
We put down a €10 deposit for a water pipe, and then when returning it, they acted confused, asked if we put down any sort of card or asked if I had a receipt, asked who I handed the money to, while pretending to frantically look around for my deposit. They tried so hard to get away with it, but I remained calm and watched them like I was watching a poorly acted movie.
Finally, they were frustrated by my patience, and gave up when I reminded them that I originally handed them a €20.
They hastily returned the €10 to me like it was my fault. Great customer service. :-)
Interestingly enough, we saw them pull the same scam to another English man 10 minutes earlier, but they got away with it that time. They asked him the same questions, went through the same motions of looking all over for his deposit, and he was confused so he walked away without his money.
There are many other excellent coffee shops in the area for you to visit. Don't waste your time with this one. Good luck.
I read a ton of good reviews on other sites about this place, saying they served all sorts of different smoothies and snacks and had bean bag chairs and comfy leather couches and played chill music. I took some out of town visitors here to try out the smoothies and was pretty disappointed at what the place actually looks like vs. the positive reviews and we left immediately.
There were no bean bag chairs, no smoothies available anywhere from what I could see, and the whole place had sort of an aggressive vibe to it. There was no place for our group to sit because they were pretty full on a Wednesday night, so they obviously get lots of business, but it didn't feel like a very friendly place. The music was very loud, the place was hard to breathe in even though they had windows open, and the only seating they had in front were hard chairs at tiny tables, and one big leather couch in the back that was totally full of people. They have a downstairs room too, and that was also pretty crowded. I can't speak to the quality of their products, but if you get something here, be aware that you might want to enjoy it somewhere else.
One of our favourite coffee shops during our visit. The staff were knowledgable of their products and friendly.
Get the mint tea, it's just mint and hot water, but it's very soothing.
Great Coffeeshop :D tags and stickers on the walls , looking Great , Good menu , mixed music , Try the Hill Street Blues
They sell some of the strongest edibles in the Red Light. The cranberry bread with orange icing for about 4 euro was well worth the price. Half a piece did the trick. Always on my list when in town.
On a trip with my sister to the beautiful city, we came across this coffee shop. From what I remember it was awesome, I liked the different levels this place had to offer, the music was perfect and the people we're friendly. One of my favorite picks!
After a long, exhausting flight from California, my friend and I stumbled into our first coffee shop, the Hill Street Blues. Although kind of dark and dingy looking at first, it only took for us to sit down and spark up to realize just how comfortable this place was. Lots of chill and laid back people hanging out, and a really nice view of the Damrak across the canal. We ended up hanging out here daily. I guess first impressions made an impact.
