Café Bohemia

After getting caught in a torrential downpour and being ill-prepared, we noticed Bohemia and decided that it would be a good time to stop for Brunch. Now let's be clear, we went into Bohemia with blind faith that whatever they could offer would be better than the torrential rain outside and we weren't disappointed.

I ordered a chai tea and my partner ordered a flat white to warm up and both were just perfect. Next, we ordered food, I opted for the bacon and cheese jacket whilst himself went for the Mediterranean breakfast. Both were delicious and himself was so jealous of my jacket, he asked to try some. Luckily for him, I was stuffed as my jacket was huge.

This cafe serves nice honest food at reasonable prices and for that you just can't knock it.

Was pretty skeptical about this place considering it had some low ratings. Had the smoked salmon breakfast and it was pretty delicious. It's a pretty quiet and decent place if you're looking for a place to do your work in.

Though a lot of cafes are defined by a bunch of bearded hipster and tech folk drinking only the finest coffee, this is a practical coffee shop with only the essentials such as basic tea, wifi and smoked salmon breakfast.

Possibly one of the worst coffees I have had in London... Nice vibe and interiors though...

A secluded place at the busiest spot
It is located in few second from the busiest crossroad of Mare street and others at Hackney Central Station. next to Bus Depot.
It is however very quiet, like a secluded place at the most crowded core spot.
It is so serene but, as you see in the pics, they are prepared for a family customer (with a small kid). So, you can have a quiet and relaxing cosy family time after your family hustle shopping at M&S (then 30 seconds crossing the street) and meals.
Indeed, the facilities have been obviously renovated in a retro-type fashion (60-70s), and the finishing is good. Ap0parerantly it is compliant with the safety rules. Well, I mean, the facilities are good! and I like them including interior decorations including lights (antique copies) and an antique piano.
The issue here is their food.
They've got everything, good facilities, the best location, and a few staff at the cafe, but just the quality of food that needs to improve. Their objective is more than clear and not very difficult as it would not involve infrastructure improvements, but just operations and standard! They've already got a chef. Why don't they take him to the best restaurants and cafes (if any in the UK) and get him to taste anything and just inspire him.
I guess they are from the southern Europe, in which food and ingredients are much better than in England. so, why not spread their intelligence and culture at the busiest spot in Hackney?

Found this to be a pleasant & unassuming bolt-hole to scuttle into out of the rain a couple of Tuesdays ago.
They don't take payment by card but my £3.50 in change got me a speedily delivered, if somewhat odd concoction, breakfast of toast with feta & jam accompanied by a good mug of tea.
The menu is pretty large and for the same price I could it turned out have obtained a couple of more traditional breakfast rolls but I didn't scan that far down the second page. Either way I'd happily eat here again.

Isn't it the most annoying thing in the world when your hopelessly inflated expectations of somewhere are dashed by reality? Now I'd consider myself something of an greasy spoon aficionado - I've spilt beans on orange formica from Enfield to World's End. So when I spied Bohemia nestled under the bridge at the bottom of Mare Street, my cholestorol-weighed heart started beating fast.

The food unfortunately, leaves a lot to be desired. It's breakfast stodge of the lowest order, with ne'er a decent sausage or slice of granary to liven up proceedings. The mushrooms were simply horrible, there were no grilled tomatoes (my faves) and everything was swimming in noticabley non-Heinz baked beans. Not good.

Which is all the stranger for the venue. Bohemia lives up to its name by putting on regular music performances. The country kitchen style decor and the atmosphere of rumbling trains overhead gives the place a certain something - but what's the point when the food is so average?
