Oh Brunton Theatre... I grew up with your concrete monstrosity of a building. It's so ugly, but it's been part of the Musselburgh skyline for all my life, it's hard to not hate your textured walls and strange light fixings. I'm even scarred by you, having tumbled down the auditorium stairs as a young child, splitting my lip open, when my dad (acting stage manager for a ballet show) switched the lights off. Memories are made of this. I've performed, died, fallen, cried, drank, worked, swept, watched, and even sang along to 'Ginger the Orangutan' here.
Anyway, that was then, and I am thinking about the this is now, where the theatre has been transformed. There is a cafe here now - not that I have tried it. They show films here! And the Fringe has a venue here! The auditorium looks smaller than I remember, and the steps less fierce, but the productions are still great for small town theatre. And who is going to knock having random films shown in such a more pleasant setting than a multiscreen cinema?
