Stayed here at the end of july had a great time! Food was good, staff were friendly & helpful. the hotel could do with a refurb, the a/c was bust so the room was hot, the room was spotlessly clean though, the bed was comfy, we would stay here again!
Needed a place to stay on our last few nights in London and didn't want to spend a fortune on hotels since everything is already so expensive here. We got this hotel at a great price so we can't really complain about quality of service or the type of amenities they provide.
The lobby looks pretty nice giving me the impression it's a fancy hotel but upon checking into the room, it was not what I expected as the decor and furniture looks extremely dated (not sure if that was intentional). There's no safe, mini fridge or hair dryer which I would've preferred in a hotel. I didn't use their other amenities such as their health club nor did I visit their restaurants so I can't comment on that.
All in all, if you're looking for an affordable place to stay and don't care too much about the bells and whistles, this place is a good choice. It's close to metro station and the shopping mall which is convenient. Just remembers to keep your expectations in check when considering the price you're paying!
Run-Down and Poorly Managed:
If you like shabby run-down Cold-War 1980s décor, then you will love the Britannia. It has not been updated since the early 1980s, and is certainly showing wear. The leather furniture in the lobby waiting area is ripped with pieces missing.. Wallpaper is peeling off in spots. The rooms are dark. Furniture is highly scarred and marked up. Pictures frames in the rooms have holes haphazardly drilled in them and the pictures (Which no one would actually steal) are fixed to the wall with screws to avoid theft. The aura of the hotel is that of a dark, unwelcoming, run-down building.
NOT a 4 Star!
I was shocked to see the hotel lobby on check in. I actually re-checked my booking. The Britania Hotel Group presents this hotel as a 4.5 star hotel. It may have been a 3.5 star 30 years ago when it was last updated, but it is barley a 2 Star. Now. Beware!
Location - Noise:
The hotel is located between a busy street on one side and railway tracks on the other. A third side faces construction cranes.
Location - Convenience
If your travel takes you to London as a tourist, then skip this hotel based on location. Canary Wharf is not an ideal location to travel from, and the hotel's many other downfalls make it a poor choice.
If your travel takes you to London for work with one of the financial firms nearby the hotel, then perhaps you would consider the hotel as a last choice.
If your objective is business in any other district than Canary Wharf, I would find a better location in Central London.
The hotel's corporate office is aware of the poor state of its Canary Wharf Hotel. It offers no guarantee of satisfaction, but continues to present its hotel as a 4-Star.
The hotel's staff is obviously tired of dealing with disappointed, disgusted and angry customers.
As I left the Britannia, I walked up a block to catch a cab. The driver asked me where I stayed. I said the Britannia. He laughed and asked, "How was it?" When I told him he laughed more. "The locals know. Every customer that comes out of that place says the same thing."
Stay away from the Britannia!
OK, this one is a bit rough. Stayed here on a soccer tour and the best I can say is "all rooms are dark at night". Restaurants served enh food buffet style. Even then clearly managed leftovers well if you know what I mean. Beds were twins shoved together, AC pretended to work, gym/pool/spa were extras. No cafe open in the morning to get an Americano, but best part was proximity to nearby underground & mall. The place served its purpose, I didn't complain (as it's consistent but bad), but I'd avoid coming back.
Not happy with my stay. The sauna was out of service the entire time. The room service menus says that sandwiches are available 24 hours but they were not and no alternative was offered. No matter what setting the rooms ac was put on it maintained 25.5c. At booking we were offered bottles of Moët champagne we ordered 3 but received 2 and the third was another brand of poor taste. If you are looking for a place to stay in London keep looking.
Ok so i stayed here a couple of weeks ago and well its a ll a bit hit and miss.
Starting with the welcome from the reception staff that are all rather aggressive for my liking and seem to forget they are serving corporate customers.
The rooms are ok if a little dated, very much a 1970s attempt at being classy .......... FAIL.
The hotel has two restaurants a pizzaria and a carvery. For the love of god if you are going to eat in the hotel go to the pizzaria. I would give the little pizza place a merited 3 stars, your basic does what it says on the tin job.
As for the carvery.......... just well aweful!! Worst meal I have had in a long time, I actually pitied the waitress and she was lovely but even the 'chef' who was doing the carving admitted it was not worth the money.
As I walked out I said the manager the only redeeming feature of the place was his waitresses which he seemed to take as the highest praise he could have received which says it all.
Overall though for a cheap-ish hotel on Canary Wharf it does the job but if you have the money go 100 yrds further along the road to the Hilton!
This only concern their gym as I have not stayed at the hotel.
Avoid! I m surprised they even offer such bad quality in canary wharf.
Old school material, used and worn out, hygiene was not good.
The space is small and lacks fresh air..
Conclusion it definitely needs a big refurbishment to match de quality the hotel wishes/pretends to be offering.
Old world plush. Thousands of rooms and all pretty nice. Restaurant on site is one for a Taste Card discount, and its very local to Canary Wharf.
Stayed here for a Valentine's one night and breakfast. Nothing to complain. Very nice classic and clean. Room was very nicely decorated. Breakfast was good as well with very smart and nice receptionists. Recommended hotel.
Reasonable price with nice room/facilities.
Secured a good price via laterooms and would rate very good hotel for price. I soild 4* with all you need including pool (small but ok)/gym and nice buffet restaurant in hotel. Also do special pizza offers to look out for not bad! Rooms decorated nicely with mix of contemporary and Asian mix with good views onto canary wharf. Great locations few mins from station.
I have been to this hotel twice. It is very nice and the rooms that I have stayed in have had fantastic views of the Docklands and Canary Wharf. The rooms are very luxurious and the food is excellent. For breakfast there is a huge selection of very good quality food and dinner was equally as good. The location of the hotel is a little 'unusual' if you are not there on business, but it can be an interesting part of London to explore if you are not familiar with it. There aren't many bars or restaurants nearby, although we did find a good Indian takeaway just round the corner. Recommended.
Stay here every London visit. Great location and views. Best hotel in London for the price. If your having a night out its a 1 min walk from te docklands light railway and tube. The hotel driver is a star. A bit pricier than the london cabs but He'll take you and pick you up in style and knows his stuff when it comes to finding a lively night out.
