The Bowlplex! Friendly and helpful staff, especially if you have children with you.
Lanes are clean and tidy, and undergo regular glass / rubbish collection by the bar staff. Shoes are obviously well kept, and cleaned after every use.
Its well worth booking ahead of time at the weekends and in the school holidays if you can - this place can get very busy! If however you just turn up, there is plenty to keep you amused. Pool tables, arcade with various games and machines to keep the little ones happy, and a bar for the adults.
You can buy food at the Bowlplex, although it is expensive and quite samey, burgers/chips etc. There are lots of other places to eat nearby though!
When my friend has time off work we like to go to lots of places and have an afternoon out. Bowling is one of the things i enjoy whether it's just 2 of you playing or you go bowling as a big group.
I think the prices are pretty reasonable but as I mentioned I normally go on a weekday afternoon.
The shoes might not be that fashionable but at least they don't really smell!!!
The food is pretty average, but it fills you up, I tend to just go for the bowling and eat somewhere else as there's so much to choose from at the Gunwharf.
It's nice that there's a bar, pool, amusements and stuff, as then everyone can find something to keep themselves amused.
I've always been served pretty quickly and the place is bright and clean (and noisy)!
This is a large bowling alley with a good deal of lanes so hopefully one will be available if you just drop in. It can be very busy at peak times such as weekends and school holidays when they also charge more. The quietest time unsurprisingly is in the daytime.
There's a small amusement area near the entrance with lots of video games, a diner selling the usual fast food fare and also a bar.
The bar is fairly large and has a good deal of seating available. They usually show some kind of sports on the screens. They have the usual drinks promotions - corkys shots for £1 last time I was there.
There's also a collection of pool tables which you can book by the hour or part.
As for the actual bowling alleys they are long & decent this being a new building. There's ramps and railings for the younger bowler.
I recently had about a dozen mates down from all over the country and decided to take them bowling.
They enjoyed the bowling, as the lanes are decent. We all had food, most people had burgers and they were ll fresh and hot, no complaints there.
I'm used to the prices and don't think they're that bad, but a lot of my mates complained that they were very expensive compared to their local places.
We enjoyed a few games of pool and a couple of drinks too. The facilities were all clean. It was packed hen we went but we didn't really have to wait to get the 2 lanes we needed. All in all a nice venue for a day out with friends or family
Good place to socialise, the lanes are always clean. It does get very busy so you will have to be prepared to wait if you dont book in advance.
There are things to do while you wait such as the arcade amusements and also a fast food eatery.
As it is the only bowling place in the heart of Portsmouth, it is always a popular place, I would definitely recommend booking if you dont want to be disappointed.
Really good fun! The partner in slime and I have recently gotten into bowling, though we're both pretty terrible. Sundays you get unlimited bowling all day for a tenner (£8 concessions). Though after a few games they might put you on a waiting list it's too busy, it's good for a short break to enjoy the really cheap drink promos :)
PA announcements made by idiots who shout and screech over the excessively loud music selected by someone with no musical appreciation. Ridiculously low light. Avoid.
I like this place. It is always clean and the staff are quite helpful and friendly. There are plenty of lanes and other assusments to keep you entertained if you have to wait. There are loads of arcade machines to play on. There's a food area selling burgers, platters to share. I dont really like all the fried food but if you're starving, it's there. There is a great range of pool tables and a bar and dance area. It has everything really for a night out in one place. The prices are not unreasonable. I would recommend taking a wander in here after some shopping and having a relaxing evening.
This bowling alley is located within the Gunwharf complex. This means you can park within the Gunwharf car park, although this can get expensive for long stays. Bowlplex itself has a large number of lanes but can get busy at popular times. Therefore you may have to wait to get a lane at peak times. Also if you go during a prime time for children you may struggle to get a suitable bowling ball as they seem to run out of the smaller sizes quite quickly. Bowlplex also has the usual extras such as a cafe selling burgers etc, pool tables and arcade games. This means it is easy to spend a lot of money here. Although the price of bowling appears about average I have noticed that playing pool works out very expensive as you pay by the hour. However they do have special discounts for students on certain nights.
great family place
