bottle apostle has just opened in what was Frocks Restaurant on the edge of Victoria Park and 2 doors from the Ginger Pig.
It is an EXCELLENT wine shop.
There are wine tasteing dispensers where you put in a card and help yourself to a taste from about 20 different wines, sweet looking dispenser. And actually I guess that it is cheaper to buy than in a pub - they don't seem to have gone for a mark up on this part.
Wine selection is good and varied and they do a range of beers, say 15 or so different ones, that I haven't seen elsewhere.
How civilised to pop in there, try a glass or two for a few pennies and then buy a bottle or two for the weekend and a couple of beers for 'just in case'  You can also buy your meat at the butchers two doors along at the Ginger Pig - I'll do another review for them
Decor is good
The two chaps that seem to run it appear enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Only draw back is there are no young attractive women staff.

Bottle Apostle

Meet the Manager: Tom J.

Tom J is the General Manager and main buyer for Bottle Apostle. He also leads many of our wine tastings.

After a brief spell as a History teacher Tom made the obvious jump from education into booze. He has worked in the wine trade for over 12 years, for Oddbins, Sainsburys and various smaller companies, with the odd break in commercial training. After gaining his Wine & Spirit Education Trust Diploma in 2001 he taught wine courses for many years and ran his own wine events company. When he remembers to pay the subs he will once again be a member of the Association of Wine Educators.

Tom's dream wine is the 1999 Barolo Pressenda Riserva from Abbona, to be drunk with roast pork and chestnuts, and shared with Dr Alice Roberts off the TV series Coast (sigh).
