10 reviews for Blue Elephant
My (now) ex brought me here to celebrate my graduation from university and it was definitely a special treat! The decor is amazing! You feel as if you are eating out in the middle of the jungle. Very peaceful and serene. The service was exceptional and we were treated very kindly.
We got the sampler dish with a little bit of everything. We were a bit worried because there was only 2 bites of each thing and it seemed like not very much, but we were very full by the end of the evening and we had a chance to try everything and see what we liked that may have been new. Their drinks were very strong and I may have to say that I was a bit tipsy by the time we left but I had a great time eating there!
Upon seeing the decor here, I did wonder if the food would be good. All too often I have been to restaurants that have put a lot of effort into the surroundings and seem to run out of steam when it comes to the food.
Blue Elephant does not desrved to be tarred with this brush. Phenomenal decor, as Viviane says, it is like being in a rain forest. Stream, ponds, complete with bridges and foliage, and I seem to recall there being Koi fish in the ponds as well.
The menu was extensive, to a point where it was hard to make a decision. I ended up ordering at random, however was not in the slightest bit disappointed. Some complimentary taster dishes were brought before the starters (probably a shameless upsell attempt), but that was also very good indeed.
Picked an exceedingly good Sancerre from the wine list, which also offered a lot of variety.
Would definitely go again.
From the restaurant's fabulous and well updated website, I had decided to book a reservation for 10 people to celebrate my birthday. The service over the phone was polite, pleasurable, quick and easy.
The restaurant was easily found and walking distance from the london underground fullham broadbay tube station.
From the outside appearence, I did have my doubts, but like they say you should never judge a book by its cover!
On entering my opinion and doubts were utterly changed. I was very impressed by the flaboyant settings and the small details they had in place to give an authethic thai experience. I felt like I was in the far east and all it cost me was a tube fare rather than a pricey air flight.
The service at the entrance was excellent, the smiles and attention given made you feel wanted, appreciated and respected. We were escorted to our tables at once and not long after a meticulously well presented waitress was ready to take our order.
The menu was ravenshing both for meat eaters and vegitarians and the cocktail range was rather exciting and frivolous. Just reading the menu had me and other salivating. The pricing was tad over the my budget but worth every penny! The food was as expected, tasty and filling. The preperation and design made the price look worthy.
The settings were unusual but very classy, the small details in the brigde connecting to different levels and the pond that ran under that bridge with catfish swimming effortlessly was amazing. Not to mention their Bar was truly magnificant.
The ambience was warm and exciting. Brilliant for all sorts of occassions such as; dates, small get together, marriage proposals and even just to go and enjoy being posh in the city!
Definitely a restaurant I would reccomend on going to. I would personally go there a few more times.
We went here today with friends for lunch. It's quite beautiful in there, like a tropical maze. We ordered a bunch of food and everything was pretty tasty, except the papaya salad, which was a bit too fishy for my taste.
The Massaman lamb was exceptionally good though, and the running crocodile was really yummy and quite spicy too.
This has got to be one of the coolest restaurants I have ever been to. The interior is like a garden full of tropical plants. Decor aside, the food is some of the best Thai food I have ever had (and I am very picky when it comes to Thai food). I had the Pad Thai and it was well prepared and had the perfect amount of heat to it. If you're in London, this place is worth a try.
This has got to be the prettiest restaurant I've ever been in! The decor was absolutely fabulous. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable!
i loved everything about this place. I only wish I lived closer... *sigh*
Wow. This is an experience!
Trees, birds, bridges with a little stream running through the restaurant full of fish. You feel like you are in the middle of a tropical rain forest! All the tables and chairs are surrounded by plants and trees providing privacy and secluded areas. Harmonious music plays in the background and the sizzling aromatic smell of Thai food wafting through the air.
The food matched the exquisite decor. The menu is full of the most mouth-watering dishes. It was so hard to choose. The table ordered crayfish for starter and I had a tasty green Thai curry with lemon rice.
As you could only imagine the staff wait on you hand and foot only too willing to do anything they can for you.
Somewhere to go for a very special occasion when you want to splash out on a loved one or impress a potential business client.
This place has been around for years and will continue to be around for years. It is an experience to go and if you lice in London you should at least try it.
I won't repeat the previous review but it is lavishly decorated it is quite scary that you walk off a typical London street into the oasis that is Blue Elephant. They cater for all your needs and the combination of excellent setting and efficient service will leave you almost gob smacked.
Ideal for an intimate dinner for two , group out for a night out, a party, office do, Christmas celebrations or a product launch they work hard to ensure everyone has a great time.
You can also book dancers or musicians if you want.
Food for me is excellent, on the expensive side but such a venue must take some upkeep and you are almost paying to be entertained as well as eat. I think it is somewhere you go on special occasions or once to say that you have been. You can also just pop in for a drink in the Blue Bar and have a sneak preview, only crossing over the bridge to eat if you decide to.
I'm not a high maintenance girl. No, really - I'm not! I just don't think it's too much to ask for a restaurant's basic criteria to entail the following;
1. Flawless food
2. A great atmosphere.
See - not high maintenance at all! Unfortunately, The Blue Elephant has managed to capture one, but not the other.
As you walk in from the main entrance, you are thrown into the heart of what looks like the Amazon jungle! It is obvious to see how much time and effort has been invested into creating an appropriate atmosphere for the ultimate 'thai cuisine experience'. The restaurant has multiple seating areas, connected to one another by small, bamboo-bridges that have streams running beneath them - full of exotic, tropical fish and antique gondolas decorated with fresh food and vegetables. The restaurant's main attraction is a giant elephant, encrusted in gold-plated lights - very romantic, indeed!
The staff is delightful - ensuring that the table is never empty for a single moment and are friendly and attentive. The food, however, isn't quite up to scratch. The portions are unreasonably small and inevitably over-priced - making it difficult to really enjoy the dining experience without wondering why you just paid £78 for 2 starters, 2 mains and a desert to share for two...3 stars for the elephant and bridges! :)
The blue Elephant is a beautiful restaurant, spread across different levels is a tropical jungle, with bridges over ponds, it is one of the best and well known Thai restaurants in London. You don't often eat in a jungle setting, so it is worth going to just for that.
I went there for lunch and had a three course set menu at £35. I had heard so much about this place and was always told that its on the expensive side, but thought that it was quite reasonable. What was great is that there was a selection of dishes to choose from for each course. To be quite honest, I cant remember the names of the dishes that I had, but do remember that I had duck for my mains and it was great. We were quite lucky when we went, it was during the afternoon, ours and just one other table were in action, so we had very attentive staff at our beck and call.
I would recommend this restaurant anytime.
