Its a little out of the way - the village of Firbeck is the kind of rural hideaway you drive through on the way to other, larger places usually, but that shouldnt deter potential visitors to the Black Lion.
Its basically an old fashioned village bar. If you picture the pub from Emmerdale with its regular clientele, then you've pretty much got an image of this place in your head. Its very cosy, warm and friendly inside. Despite not being local, I'm never stared at and whispered about by the regulars, which happens more than you might think in this part of the world.
They dont sell anything out of the ordinary, but its a decent sized bar with a good selection of drinks to choose from, and as its never really busy, it doesnt take long to get served.
A word of recommendation for the bar meals they serve too - they're excellent. Bar meals as you imagine bar meals should be - plenty of choice on the menu, traditional British food, fresh, hot and quick to arrive.
Worth a visist if you're out for a drive on a Summers evening or - if like me - you occasionally pass by while you're out walking.
