The Birdcage is a drag bar, and wow, it's amazing (just think the movie!) it's full of glitter, feathers and cliche, and it's just brilliant for it. It's a great place to go for a stag or hen, and it's location is idea, under the cover on boar lane, just 2 minutes from the train station and taxi rank for the end of the night!
I can't recommend it enough - it's just great fun. The drinks are good prices and the staff are just so nice, from the doormen, to the coat attendants, the bar staff and the acts themselves. You really feel the atmosphere which is welcoming, fun, wild and crazy!
The Birdcage is just brilliant, if you're in Leeds go there, you won't be dissapointed, it's a riot!
I have to agree with Alex K. on this one, entering the Birdcage, and judging from the fliers and posters you see around the city, the Birdcage on paper looks like a fabulous extravaganza of feather boas, obscene headdresses. Although I must say that the shows are fun and will put a unique spin on your night out, it is the clientele that changes this and flips it on his head. Instead of being a unique and interesting night out, you are faced with many people that make you wonder of their intentions. It is full of men leching over women, and they do all seem slightly too old for the venue.
Expecting a completely different kind of night out, sadly, aside from the entertainment which was...entertaining (!), I felt pretty uncomfortable in there, being approached by seedy drunken men is not really my idea of fun.
My first and last experience at Birdcage was not a pleasant one. It may have changed since I went but I don't dare going to find out.
Having experienced the Birdcage in Manchester and having had a pretty good night there, my mates and I decided to ignore the stories about the Leeds one and check it out a few months ago during the week simply because we'd done every where else.
Birdcage is a pretty awful place - sticky, grubby and dirty inside (something that fails to get hidden by the flashy glitziness of the acts and drag queens, which were another scary aspect of the place).
It was also full of scary looking locals who were slightly too old to be out in such a club...fresh from sinking a pint or twelve at the nearby Yates', the skinheads pile into here and try it on with any girl in sight, which can make for some pretty ugly scenes. The bouncers are absolute brutes too. Avoid.
For a vegas cabaret style show, the Birdcage is actually not too bad! They have boy dancers, drag queens and show girls who shimmy the night away. They have shows every 45 minutes so you can pop in, watch then get on with your night.
It's even popular with celebrities....even newsreaders who you wouldn't expect to be into this kind of scene.
Kind of cheesy, a bit random...but surprisingly...fun! I'd heard bad reviews about this place too and did see some of the scary locals and beer louts, but by this time I was too vagas-ed up to care! I can't say I'd go back again as it is a little grubby, but it was a fun experience.

I wasn't looking forward to going here as i had heard some terrible stories about the place. I was invited by a friend who promised me i would enjoy myself, so i went along one saturday night and who would of thought i did really enjoy myself.
The entertainment is pretty good and quite funny. Id recommend going in a large group though as there can be a bit of agro with some of the guys in there. Best to stick together when your in there.
Overall better than i thought!
Birdcage is one of the best nights out in Leeds. Recently voted the Number 1 nightclub in Leeds and it easy to see why.
In close distance to the train station, bus station and taxi ranks you have no excuse to not come here. Open Wednesday to Sunday and including many different nights from 80's, 90's and Cabaret Nights. 80's night is compered by Miss Orry, a truly wonderful and witty drag queen who is acid tongue but hilarious with it. Wednesdays include 80p drinks such as sambucca and vodka energy. Thursdays is headed by Degsie and is a great mix of 90's music and cheap drinks. The cabaret shows on the weekend are amazing and the stars look truly beautiful.
All the staff are great and I always have a great laugh with most of them.
See you Thursday x
This is the main reason to go to leeds - for the girls.I absolutely love the birdcage and have a good mate who works there on and off as one of the girls. This is a drag bar and not for the easily offended but it is one of the best and most funniest places to go. They do live shows and caberets and have the drag queens as staff flouting about all over the place too. They are very entertaining and well worth going over for. The club is very extravagant and lovely inside and the feel is fun fun all the way. The drinks are lovely and the cocktails are named after some of the girls. The prices are a bit steep but they do offer special offers now and then and on different days. You book too to avoid having to queue and just float inside like a star. I absolutely love this place. The staff are lovely, friendly and chatty and the girls are ok too.
Not really the sort of place I enjoy but if you go with a group of people someone is bound to enjoy the entertainment. My dad thought it was hilarious (he's in his 50s and never seen anything quite like the entertainment they have). Loads of coctails available and if you're going for a special event such as a birthday or hen night then book in early and get special VIP treatment (a table at the front and waiter service etc).
+ They serve drink. - You'll get insulted Girls will have a better time than boys. I wanted to leave.
A drag show bar in the heart of leeds city centre, first class performances from all the staff. not out and out gay but very mixed. a regular with the hen nights and stag does. great place for a large crowd to go and have a fantastic night
not great, however the acts are fab. shame me and my friends had a lot of unwanted hassle from guys. not nice when you just want to have a fun girly night out. also we werent aloud to have a go at pole dancing which was a shame. but good place to go on a hen night or stag do. cheap drinks some nights
