Came here after reading the great yelp reviews. Great spot!
Fish stew and half chicken were delicious entrees.
The menu is huge, no joke. You'll eventually find the English section.
There are 400 beers to choose from, so be ready and know what you like. We just opted for a tasting and then ordered from there.

Other yelpers commented on the service. We had a few different servers and maybe they weren't the most attentive once we were eating, but we easily waved one down for drink refills.
It was packed when we arrived, and We ate at about 9pm. We saw them turn away several larger parties who tried to get in. They stop serving food at 10. I think they can still serve dessert and drinks after 10, but very strict about food.

Yum. If you couldn't tell this was the place to go based on how packed it is, I don't know what else would tell you. It's easy to miss this place because it's surrounded by a decent number of other restaurants and bars.

We came here for dinner and got seated immediately. Definitely difficult to get seated if you're a bigger group, so heads up. Also, the kitchen closes at around 9, so if you're trying to grab a bite to eat, you need to come on the earlier side.

The beer list is so huge I just described what I wanted and asked the waiter to bring me whatever. If you have a particular beer in mind, probably a better idea. Looking at the menu just overwhelmed me.

The menu is huge- only because it includes the beer list (huge) and because it has the menu in like four different languages. We got the cheese croquettes and shrimp croquettes to start. Nice crunchy outer layer, gooey on the inside. Thoroughly enjoyed the cheese croquettes over the shrimp croquettes. Both come with this odd little side salad too. Each order of croquettes comes with two decently sized croquettes.

For main dishes, we respectively had the half roasted chicken, the rabbit, and the cod. In general, I don't like rabbit but I know everyone else thinks it's phenomenal. Still not a fan, too gamey for me. The cod was really tender and fresh, still had all the bones intact. Paired with fries, of course, it was gobbled quickly. I would say the cod was not that filling and I probably could have ate another meal after this one if I hadn't ate a lot of the appetizers.

Heads up, service is on the slower side, because well, you're in Belgium. So be prepared to be here for awhile.

This place has an enormous amount of different alcoholic beverages. Beer, ales, fruit beer etc

    Slow service though. Superslow.

So happy we came here while in Bruges. The food was excellent and their enormous beer menu (400+ to choose from) would satisfy any beer snob.

We had the steak with garlic butter for 24 euro which comes with salad and fries. This meal was big enough to split. They have a lot of regional specialties such as rabbit stew with prunes. We left full and happy!

The atmosphere is casual and warm, but busy. Service left something to be desired (a server pretty much laughed at a man who was asking about a table for 6 and told him to come back tomorrow), but that seems par for the course.

Came to this restaurant based on Yelp reviews and had a great meal!

The beer menu is ridiculously large. In fact, the physical menu is a ridiculously large plank cutting board with dozens of pages. There is an English section in it mid-way through, also.

I ordered a ribeye with garlic butter that was FANTASTIC, and my husband had a chicken dish with mushrooms and a tomato sauce, which he really enjoyed. As an appetizer, my husband had a fish stew that he literally said was the best thing he's ever eaten.

Only complaint was that our server was not friendly at all, and almost seemed annoyed with us. There were other servers around who were more bubbly, but not ours! Service is leisurely, which is to be expected.

We went for lunch and left absolutely filled.

I ordered the shrimp croquettes and grilled shrimps (both starter dishes). Both were very well executed -- perfectly flavoured and in just the right portions. My bf ordered the carpaccio, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He's a huge meat eater, and even he couldn't finish everything!

We also ordered a few glasses of beer. I had the Brugge Zot and Augustijn. They were both great -- Brugge Zot being slightly softer and more popular around here. By the time I left, I was happily tipsy.

Service was okay but not the best. I felt like they could have been a bit friendlier with their guests.

All in all, a must near the bell tower in Brugge!

I feel fortunate that I'm not one of those who had a bad experience here because I loved it. We went when it was busy but really when isn't it? We managed to get a table for six within 15 min or so of careful, strategic positioning and patience. Our table of six grew to a table of seven. The staff was quite accommodating with setting us up with place mats, silverware and menus. I found the staff to be friendly and warm. The service was quick for how busy it was. I was impressed. Bad attitudes and poor service was not on the menu tonight.

Was this a tourist trap? I don't think so. I could see how it could be a combination of locals and tourists because I mean be realistic they have 400 beers to choose from. How long do you think that would take to sample even a hundred of those. Yea I'm sure the locals have sampled more than a few to determine which are their favorites. Also, when there's so much to choose from ask for a recommendation. The server recommended the house draft. It was an excellent choice.

Their menu is quite extensive, meaning thick. Yea, lots to choose from. Here's another tactic. Look around you and see what other tables are having and order what looks good. It sure beats trying to decipher and choose from a huge menu. I saw a few rib steaks being served and knew immediately that was for me. It was a great choice. I asked for medium rare and sure enough it was just that. It was a great meal. It was a great experience because even when we asked for separate checks, a servers nightmare, they complied. Great place, great food, great atmosphere and great beer. I'll definitely go back when next in Brugge. They are also dog friendly.

Word to the wise: MAKE A RESERVATION.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that we watched at least 30 couples/groups get turned away because there was no room. And why would there be open tables in a place that offers hundreds of beers, including some rare bottles, as well as good pub-style food?

If you're looking for Trappist beer, they have them all.  Looking for locally brewed beer? They have that, too. The servers are knowledgeable about the beer and one of our servers, whom I can't thank enough, turned me into the arabier brewed by De Dolle, which I loved.

If you're a vegetarian, as we are, your food options will be limited. I highly recommend the Trappist beer cheese croquettes, though. We talked about them for a few days afterward.

Add this place to the "must go to" column, if you're beercationing in Belgium.

While walking around the city over the Easter holiday, we stumbled into this spot after reading that they had 400 types of beer on the menu. Immediately walked in to enjoy that one final beer before getting back home, and were lucky enough to find a table to ourselves even though we did not make a reservation earlier. It was crowded.

As others have said - finding a brew on the menu is a difficult chore - especially if you've never even heard of the 390 other beers on the menu. After much perusal, I decided to play it safe by asking the one server what he recommended. And, the house dark beer it was. I felt like it tasted alright, and nothing much to talk about.

Then, while checking out other Yelp reviews, I found Tanya V.'s review and immediately flagged the server to get me the Westvleteren (I didn't know how to say it, so I just showed my Yelp app to him). He winced a bit and then quickly walked away saying they didn't have it in stock. I was dismayed. So they didn't really have 400 beers available when I visited.

They are really quick to get your first order but after that you're on your own as no one even bothers to come around and ask if you'd like another. I guess the assumption is that you'd order a beer and something to eat and just leave, of course, paying at the counter by the bar on your way out.

The clientele was mostly tourists, a lot of English folks. A family behind us was even enjoying a game of cards - all in all quite a chill spot if you know to order all your beers well in advance and know what you want to drink before even stepping in.

Beer menu is so large it's almost impossible to choose.  You should have some specific beers in mind when you go.  Their beer menu is almost like a small phone book.  I had a simple beerpate sandwich which was like liverwurst.  I wasn't quite hungry, but would have loved to try their other dishes.  Their steaks and beef stew look really good.  My wife liked her onion soup.  Place was crowded for lunch on a Tuesday.

When we first walked into Cambrinus, the place was packed and we weren't sure we'd get a seat, as we hadn't made reservations, but the hostess gave us a seat on the condition we'd be out in an hour and a half. As a result, our service was extremely fast,  something novel thus far on our trip to Europe; and yet we still never really felt rushed

My girlfriend ordered the half chicken which was very moist and flavourful, but nothing out of this world and I ordered the flemish beef stew in a dark beer sauce. The portions were a good size, and the meals came with a huge bowl of delicious fries with some sort of mayo sauce and we definately left stuffed. The stew was one of the best meals I had in Belgium,  very rich and earthy,  but didnt feel overly fatty or oily. Our waiter was great and really knowledgeable about the beers they had, offering to help us pair one with our meals. He found my girlfriend a fruity Kriek that she enjoyed and I had St Bernardus, a dark beer that is surprisingly light flavoured with caramel undetones that matched the stew perfectly.  4* for the food and an extra 1* for the great service we got, despite them being packed and needing our table back for reservations

As they say, when in Rome!  Of course we had to do the tourist thing and we all agreed on having Flemish for dinner in Bruges.  Bierbrasserie Cambrinus, in a historical building built in 1699, was jam-packed in the middle of the week but we walked in just to try our luck.  I totally dug the brew hall feel to the place.  It was toasty warm inside.  It sure was a refuge to the chilling weather out there.

The workers were so busy, dishes stacked on their forearms doing the balancing act while meandering amid the crowds.  It took them a minute or two to notice us.  The waiter switched to English automatically,"zhust beer ou dinnair?"  Uh, oui oui beer and dinner, s'il vous plaît!  We wanted Both because we were starving after a long day of walking around town in the freezing cold.  Without making a reservation, we expected to be turned away or have to wait a long while.  Surprisingly, they managed to snatch a table for us straight away since the party hadn't arrived.

The very first thing our waitress delivered to our table looked like a phone book.  Holy Moly!  That was their beer list.  They have 400 different kinds of beers and it's not an idle boast.  Instead of perusing the many pages, we put our faith in the waitress and chose from her top ten.  Without hassle, we proceeded to relax and soak in the welcoming homey vibe.

I've learned that each beer must be poured and served in its designated drinking vessel in order to enhance its flavor and body.  Who knew the shape and the size of a glass would have such a big impact on the brew right before you down it.  But a beer connoisseur can tell you all about it.

Our dinner options were comparatively less elaborate.  The menu fit on a single page.  We started with the Tomato Bisque with Small Meatballs.  Loved this simple yet comforting starter!  It was creamy and delicious. The Flemish Carbonades was excellent as the Gulden Draak beer gave it the richness that I so enjoyed.  We also liked the savory Chicken with Mushrooms, Silver Onions and Bacon with "Flemish Old Brown" beer.  I wish the sauce hadn't been reduced as long because it was quite potent. My wife liked the rusticity of the Rabbit with Prunes and Gambrivinus house beer.  They left the bones in which gave the dish the full flavor.  These few classic Flemish fares made up a heartening meal. We were so fond of each and every one of them.

Appetite sated.  Thirst slaked.  Friendly service. Bierbrasserie Cambrinus was a perfect finish to a perfect day for us!

The prune braised rabbit was so good, it made my top 5 death row final meals.  I had no idea that I was in store for such a treat (especially on my last meal in Belgium), when we were told that it would be a 45 minute wait (reservations are suggested).  The restaurant was unassuming and bustling, the beer list was presented in a massive binder, and the food was good that I didn't want to leave.  Definitely a lasting memory....

This is probably one of the most popular watering holes in Brugge but not only is it great for beer, and lots of different kinds, but they also have a decent restaurant.  I didn't get to eat there so am only judging by what I saw people eating and the fact that I couldn't eat there because I didn't make a reservation.  And I'm not talking about all tourists but elderly locals were eating there too.

The best part is that the place is very cosmopolitan and I struck up conversations with a couple from England and then some people from the USA (Colorado), as well as some inebriated Norwegians.  Skol!!

It was okay... They have a huge beer list and and are close to the main town square.  However, definitely not 4.5 stars as suggested on Yelp.  The servers seemed to be overloaded and we watched them roll their eyes after leaving several tables.  My girlfriend and I have both been servers in our youth, so we know it's a tough gig, but these ladies were definitely not happy and didn't make us feel welcome at all.

The food was bla... No real must haves on the menu and what we did order was okay but nothing we couldn't have had at any cafe.  Things to avoid are the shrimp croquettes (tasted like cat food) and the creme brûlée (which was under cooked).

Beer selection was abundant and representative of most Belgian pubs, but because the service was so poor we sat for extended periods with empty glasses... A true crime as this may have made the food taste better.

In short, there are far better places to eat in Bruges where the beer flows, the food is excellent and the servers are friendly.  Don't waste you time and money here.

We also ate at the restaurant directly across the street called Au Petit Grand for dinner another night.  I'll write a review of it as well, but in summary it was excellent.  Go have a few beers and then go there for dinner.

    This. place.

Over 400 beers available and amazing food to go with them. Definitely get a reservation as we made one for a Monday and saw multiple people be turned away starting at 7pm because they were already booked full with reservations for the night. Husband and I had spent 3 days in Spain and were excited to try some good Belgian food, and we sure came to the right place. Two kinds of soup to start (tomato cream and flemmish onion) and then beef stewx2 served with frites and sauce. Amazing all around...couldn't even finish the whole thing because it was so rich and good.

We don't know much when it comes to Belgian beers, so we just asked the waitress to pair certain beers with what we had ordered, and she did a really great job. Everything went really well. To top it all off we had a tiny little table in the corner overlooking the rainy fairytale-esque Brugge streets. Such a great place (but popular...) so remember to make a reservation and get there on time!

This was one of our favorite finds in Bruges!

It was a chilly evening (I live in the Southern US so I'm spoiled) and rainy outside when we stepped out of the cold into the warm and friendly Cambrinus.

The smells that hit you are fantastic.

It's best to call ahead and make a reservation... But we hadn't done so and ended up waiting about an hour.  We took 30 minutes and went down the street to grab a drink and returned back and ended up sitting at the bar.

We didn't complain because It gave us a chance to review the menu... Which is RIDICULOUSLY large.  I'm sure there are pictures (I attached one) but it's almost too big to believe.

We ended up splitting some smaller plates because we were pretty full from the last 5 days of French and Belgian cuisine.

Enjoy it!  I would strongly recommend a dinner here!

Eh, found this to be totally overrated and a bit of a let down.
The service was crap. Unattentive and unfriendly despite arriving well before the dinner rush.  i got the feeling that they were annoyed by us simply since we were english-speaking tourists.
Even worse, i found the food even crappier.  i don't remember what i got, totally unmemorable, i do remember the fries though- not up to belgian standards- tasted like your average cheap diner's fries.
And my bf's burger was gross, didn't even taste like beef.
Beer selection was good, if i were to come back (which i don't plan to) it would be for the bar only.
So, i don't know if i came during an off-night or what, but i definitely did not find my experience in line with other yelpers.

Of course, we found this place through Yelp on our first night in Brugge.  It was our first restaurant stop, so with no frame of reference to other spots in town, I'd say this restaurant was pretty good, but I can't say if it was better than others in the area.

Actually, given the nearly perfect review on Yelp, I was a little disappointed with the experience.   I was expecting to be blown away, but instead, I left feeling satisfied and full, and like we didn't get ripped off, all in all a good experience, but probably won't return.

    Pros:
    Very extensive beer list
Near the square and easy to find
    Reasonable prices
    Well prepared food
The typically slow European service, but adequate and English speaking.

    Cons:
Very meat heavy menu - Mostly steaks, two chicken dishes, and a rabbit dish.  Five pasta dishes.  Very little that was vegetarian.
No alcohol free beer for pregnant yelpers like me.
Extremely loud with crowds of drunk rowdy men.

    What we had:
Irish Ribeye Steak - Very fatty (even for a ribeye), cooked rare (asked for medium rare, but hubby was ok with what he got), served with fries and salad.  He thought it tasted good, but it didn't seem like anything special.

Spaghetti Bolognese - Quite tasty, huge portion, a bit too much cheese on top (I didn't think that was possible) and served piping hot.  Would order again.

Cheese croquettes - Gooey bricks of deep fried cheese - not entirely cheese, but almost like a Dutch bitterballen with a lot of cheese in it.  Extremely rich and of course, delicious.

We were there at 5pm on a Friday evening and if we had gotten there any later, I doubt we would have gotten a table.  Keep that in mind.  They do take reservations.

Perhaps we will try other places in Brugge that turn out to be horrible tourist traps, and come running back to this place.  I just don't see that happening...  Will keep you posted.

Thank you, Yelp! I'm glad I did some research before visiting Brugge. It's a very touristy area with packed, overpriced, seemingly low-quality eateries. Cambrinus does not fall into any of those categories.

We decided on the Trappist Cheese Croquettes and Flemish Carbonade. Our waitress suggested the pairing which includes creme brulee for just 1 euro more. Deal.

The croquettes were ooey gooey and tasty. Placed on a bed of veggies including crispy fried parsley, it was a great appetizer to share.

The beef carbonade, prepared with Belgian beer and served with chunky applesauce, was tender and rice. It was also served with thick-cut frites.

The creme brulee was much better than the average I've had in the states. I enjoyed cracking the top with my spoon, and the slightly smokey taste of the caramelized topping against the creamy and sweet center.

All of this good food, and I could also get many of my favorite Belgian beers for less than half of their price in the states. Such a satisfying experience all around.

My wife and I were here for the American Thanksgiving and we decided to have our "big lunch" here. A couple of salads that were both amazing. My wife had a salad featuring goat cheese, currants, and pancetta and it was, in her estimation, one of the best things she's ever eaten. We're no strangers to quality food, so that is extremely high praise indeed. I had a salad with thin slices of duck breast that was also pretty incredible.

The beer selection here is very good. I really wish I could give this place five stars, but the service was harried and overworked. The tables were far from full when we visited and it was usually pretty difficult to get our waitress' attention.

If you're on holiday in Bruges, I highly recommend this place.

We came here to sample some of their 400 varieties of beer! The selection is impressive and probably the largest in the area.

The beer menu was divided into different types of beer - ales, lagers, fruity beers, etc. and it was relatively easy to find something. This is a great place to explore new beers.

I'm not sure about their dinner menu but we ordered some bar snacks (bitterballen, croquette, etc.) and they were tasty. Nothing amazingly special but good lining for all the drinking. The beers were surprisingly strong (8%)!

TIP: Do not order the cookie beer, it is super strong and has a very strong bitter taste.

The service here is so mixed, I think it's hard to say what you can expect in one review. We arrived in Bruges much later than planned due to train and power issues in Amsterdam. We stopped by this place, but were told there was a 45 minute wait. We walked to a couple of other restaurants nearby, weren't thrilled with the other offerings, and came back here to find they were able to seat us immediately.

The beer list is intimidating, but their system of color-coding, tasting notes, and asterisks for their favorites made it much easier to choose. The server was nice enough, brought our food in a reasonable amount of time. She helped us the most, but other servers who mingled around also helped when we wanted to look at a menu again and order another round. There was one server, however, who seemed to refuse to help us when we asked. He nodded acknowledgement, then disappeared, forcing us to track someone else down to help. All in all, a good meal--steak tartare was delicious, frites were excellent, and beers were fabulous.

A couple of nights later, for our last night in Bruges, we wanted to escape the rain and gale force winds with a warm meal and some beers. We stopped by the Bierbrasserie again, remembering the good experience we had before. This time, however, the hostess was disappointingly very rude. There are probably nicer ways she could have told us the restaurant was booked to reservations until 9pm. I'm sure lots of people come by asking the same question about getting a table, but still. It seems that she's one of the several people in Bruges we encountered who work in customer service and loathe the tourists. It's too bad. But, we found another place to eat and will continue to enjoy the memories of our first visit here.

We tried to go to dinner here on a Wednesday night, but they had no availability, so we came early the next night and got a good table by the window up front.

The beer selection was great! My husband got the sampler, and he really liked it, including (surprisingly!) the cherry beer. I got a Belgian IPA which isn't a Belgian go-to, but it was great!

I have to say though, that the main event was the food... It was so good! So tasty, so flavorful, just so good. I got the cannellonis  and my husband got a steak, neither of which are Belgian/local, but were so delicious!

I have to admit that when we walked in, I thought this would be a touristy place that was encouraged by good yelp reviews, but we were extremely satisfied and glad we came.

If you want to try Belgian cuisine, go there!! (Beer is part of Belgian cuisine, of course.)

We had the cheese and beer croquettes (€9) as an appetizer - reaaally good except you can't really taste beer in it. Then, the Flamish beef stew ('carbonnade', €18) with apple compote and fries is a must. And try any beer you want during your meal, the choice is large and prices reasonable.

Only downside: the waiters are not really helpful. For instance, impossible to get some tap water with you meal, you have to order bottled water...

Legit one of the best meals I've had in my entire life!  The fish stew will change your life, for the better. Much better. There is absolutely no shortage of beers but advice is to stick to what is on tap; any place that has 400 beers then you have a chance of picking one that's a year old.  Belgium in a comfortable warm and energetic atmosphere, and towards the end of the night it's common to see a couple stumblers.

If you find your way to this wonderful beer brasserie in Belgium, you must try one beer before any other. Westvleteren. I don't care if you have the 8, 10 or 12, etc., but you MUST drink this beer.

The food is also really, really good and the place is constantly packed. Make a reservation and enjoy beer heaven.

    The beer:
about as wide a selection of both draft and bottled Belgian beer as you will ever see.

    The food:
Really well executed Belgian classics. I quite liked my rabbit in mustard sauce, my wife really enjoyed her Carbonnade.

    The location:
It's so close to the Grote Markt they could get away with being a tourist trap (which they're not).

    Getting a table:
We came here at prime time for dinner on a Friday, and the guy running the place (it's too casual to call him a maitre d') told us they were booked for hours. We said "thanks", and then he warned us not to go to one of the places on the Grote Markt. I already knew that, but it spoke well of him.

We made lunch reservations for the next day for a party of 10, and it went off without a hitch.

We came back for drinks later that night around 11ish, and there was no problem getting a table just for drinking.

So the moral of that story is, book a table in advance, or go during an off-hour.

ALSO: very kid friendly. And their ice cream came inside some kind of little toy.

Huge selection of beers here (over 400)! They also have great food. Beef stew was my favorite, followed closely by the sliced chicken. I wouldn't bother with the steak. It's fine, not great.

If you're traveling with kids, the kids meal offers a nearly adult sized beef stew, plus a crappy dessert. The stew, as stated earlier, is very good.
