BHS gets mixed opinion from me. They are a department store, and each department is very different in terms of quality and value.
The mens and ladieswear depts are, in my opinion, a bit lacking. All the styles are really bland, sizes aren't the most generous and prices aren't the cheapest. There's really very little of interest to make it worth a look.
The kids and babies stuff is much nicer. I think people often don't look at it because of their experiences with the adult clothing, but they do actually have some really nice stuff and it isn't too expensive, especially if you take advantage of their special offers or on sale days.
Where they really shine is in the household dept. They've got some great stuff in here, really good quality and although it's not cheap, it's much better value that the liks of John Lewis or Frasers despite being of similar quality.
The Doncaster store has the advantage of being in the Frenchgate centre, as well as having main doors out on to the street outside. It therefore gets busy with people just passing through. It can feel a bit cramped, and the homewares section (which isn't as big as it should be) gets really hot from the lighting displays. But it's really good, so worth ignoring the bad points.
The staff in this branch of BHS are really friendly and helpful. It is in a good location with access directly from the Frenchgate Centre, or from the main shopping streets outside, and has the all-essential buggy-friendly lift!
As well as clothes they've got a lovely home-wares dept. The lighting in BHS is about as nice as you can get anywhere and whilst a lot of BHS clothing is classed as fairly downmarket, their home goods are usually well respected and feature many top designers.
If you're in Donny and haven't been into BHS before it's worth a visit, especially if you're into nice things for the house - you'll probably be very pleasantly surprised.
This is a large BHS spanning two floors based within Frenchgate shopping centre in Doncaster.
It has a good selection of clothing and accessories on offer. With Ladies/Gents, lingerie and nightware on the groundfloor and childrens clothing and a restaurant on the first floor.
The restaurant offers a good range of hot and cold food, which is very reasonably priced.
Regular sales means there are often bargains to be had.
At christmas time they do a great selection of gifts, which are great for stocking fillers or main gifts. The closer you get to christmas the better the deals are as they often cut the prices to do a last minute push in sales. Also after christmas they tend to slash their prices too so its often better to buy then for the following year.
Staff are helpful. The store can get very busy at weekends and the run upto christmas so expect long queues.
This is one of the bigger BHS'S that ive been to,im not so keen on their ladies collection it seems a bit expensive for what it is,I do however shop there regulary for childrens clothes, thease are quite good value and they have some lovely outfits that look as good as designer brands, they also are good for buying speciality outfits such as childrens santa suits, easter bunnies ect
I would never come here to buy christmas presents though ,thease are really over priced and not even that good ,with items such as a small bottle of wine and little teddy bear in fancy packaging costing over £20
Oh dear...this BHS could really do with a good refubishment. It really is starting to show it's age compared to other shops in the Frenchgate Centre.
The adult clothes are SO bland and boring, but the kids clothes are really good and the household department is great also. It has an ok Cafe as well which is quite popular, but nothing too special.
I think this BHS just seems old and unloved. It really needs a new look to bring in the customers so it can compete with the House of Fraiser and Debenhams.
British Home Stores better known as BHS is a good old fashioned department chain along the lines of Debenhams but a lot cheaper. It specialises of course in home goods such as bedding, mirrors and interior supplies like lamps and cushions. it also sells clothing, wedding goods, some beauty items and lots of gifts for Christmas. The prices are very reasonable and the sales are excellent with up to 80% off some items. It really is worth checking this place out as it is one of the best shops in Doncaster in my opinion.
Good range of goods, the homeware and lighting department is particularly good which can be found in the basement.Ladies clothing can be found on the ground floor level and offers a good selection of goods - there is a good sized petite section.Menswear is located in the basement area but is not as extensive as the womens clothing section. The cafe is very nice - plenty of seating,it is situated on the first floor and offers a good selection of hot and cold foods and drinks.
Good size, good prices, good range of clothes. Nothing special and no different from any other BHS
