The Berkshire Arms is laid back from the main Bath Road in Midgham a small village between Reading and Newbury.
Formally a big farm house this is now owned by Chef and Brewer with accommodation by Premier Travel, the spacious building has about ninety tables for dinning including an outdoor patio and large garden, the food served is excellent value at a very reasonable price.
The service is next to none with very polite waitress service, the large bar offers a good selection of three Real Ales, lagers, bottled beers and wines.
This popular place is highly recommended with its very laid back atmosphere.

In an area filled with bargain pub chains or high-end gastro pubs, we weren't sure what to expect when we pulled in for a family lunch.

The layout if traditional country pub with tables placed in booths and alcoves, plus a long spacious bar with 3 real ales and good choice of wines.

We ordered child portions of scampi and chips/fish and chips while I had venison pudding and mash, followed by ice cream and lemon drizzle (look out for cake + coffee dessert combo for £3.50).

Staff are pleasant, the food, ambience, hygiene (toilets v good), all made for a pleasant lunchtime foray.

The only reason I didn't go to 5 stars was the 'order at the bar' system for placing orders. With their people and set-up, it shouldn't be too difficult to go to table service....after all the waitress came over to confirm our order before it went to the kitchen, and we ordered desserts with them directly.

Although you may be put off by the fact that this is a Chef & Brewer it is certainly more than that. In addition to the usual menu there is a hugh additional menu which is all freshly prepared and cooked on the premises. There is even a herb garden to the front entrance where there are little signs showing you which dish the herb has been used in. Very nice outdoor sitting are and large car park. It is all next to a Premier Inn whose rooms are very clean and comfortable.
