Holy crap, these are by far the best cookies I've ever tasted. Seeing as I was already living off biscuits and pastries, I was determined to avoid getting addicted to another sweet British baked good, but a flatmate enticed me with a taste so I dragged a friend all the way down Oxford St to this place. The store is tiny and barely fits more than four customers (the fact that the door opens inwards doesn't help, either). Cookies were medium-sized and sold by weight. I paid £3.48 for three: the milk chocolate chunk, the triple chocolate, and the chocolate orange. All I can say is WOW!!! The outside of the cookie is perfectly crispy, and the inside is soft and moist enough to melt on your tongue. I swear, you'll cry tears of joy the first time you bite into one. The first two cookies had a huge slab of chocolate in the center; it was like biting into one of those chocolate-filled croissants, only better. The chocolate orange was incredible and reminded me of a Terry's chocolate orange, though the taste of orange was a little stronger.
I will definitely stock up on these before I fly home to the states. Mrs Fields will never satisfy me again.
This is as close to the real deal as I've found -- a cookie, not a biscuit. As an American who enjoyed but didn't quite buy into the McVittie or scone, it was nice to experience something that resembled the traditional American sweet.
Ben's Cookies is slightly overpriced in my opinion, but they offer some interesting variations on the traditional American Snicker Doodle, Chocolate Chip or Oatmeal fare.
My last word: They're good, but don't trick yourself into thinking your eating something better than the real thing. London, I laud your efforts, but you can't duplicate the authentic divinity of the American cookie.
Definitely not the best cookies I ever had... I know this little spot on the Upper West Side in Manhattan that takes the cake (no pun intended) on that one.
That being said, it is none the less lovely to find chocolate chip cookies in LONDON! I wouldn't say these are traditional US style chocolate chip cookies, nor the other varieties as they come off to me tasting a bit too doughy but they are the best I've found in London so far, so they get a stop from me whenever I pass by one of their locations.
Wish they were a bit more consistent though... sometimes you get warm and gooey cookies, other times cold lumps, still tasty but no where as scrumptious. Hey if Doubletree hotels can manage a way to have warm cookies on ready when their business is NOT selling cookies (anyone whose stayed in their hotels at least in the US knows what I mean right?), why can't Ben Cookies?
Wow!! Ben's Cookies have GOT to be the best cookies I've ever tasted!!
Happy circumstance brought us in the path of Ben's - as we were walking along Oxford Street & needing something to fortify us as we continued our shopping extravaganza, a cookie seemed in order
Still warm, these babies were crunchy on the outside, soft & batter-like on the inside.....THIS is exactly how I like to cook my own cookies & Ben's has it down pat.
Mrs Fields never stood a chance
Skawooshy-bloop go the huge lumps of chocolate.... Milk Chocolate Chunk for me; Ginger Chunk for Sis & those chunks were indeed just that!
