How has nobody reviewed this place yet?
Anyway, I was in Exeter for business for about a week. I ate here several times, initially because it is the only place within walking distance of the hotel (Holiday Inn Express).
I had a cheeseburger for lunch one day, which was very good.
The next night I had the "game casserole" (Venison and partridge). I have nothing to compare this to, since I don't regularly eat game meats nor English food, but it seemed good to me.
A few nights later I had dinner there again, and I've honestly forgotten what it was (some kind of fish that I believe was on the special and not on their regular menu) but it was very good. I had banoffee pie for dessert, which was excellent!
I didn't give it a glowing review, because I can't vouch for it's authenticity. To me, it felt like a real British pub, but I'm just a dumb American :-)
Perhaps it's not quite authentic. I wouldn't know...
That said, the atmosphere was great and there appeared to be a good mix of people there. It was never empty, even in the middle of a weekday.
Ample parking and easy to get to from the M5. Would definitely go again.

The Barn Owl is a big hit at lunchtimes with several large firms close by, the food is usually fairly good with more than your usual pub grub on offer, especially on the daily specials board.
Real Ale's are served as well as a decent pint of Staropramen.
Due to the location of this pub I would suggest that unless you live close by or have a designated driver in your party then the Barn Owl is probably only worth visiting for an quiet evening meal.

Attractively presented venue run by Vintage Inns who tend to do things well. Although a relatively new building it has a classic appearance due to the use of reclaimed building materials. The food isn't gourmet but it's decent quality pub grub at a fair price. I always find the staff friendly and the service is quite efficient even during busier periods. Decent beers and a fair choice of wines or if you want a soft drink try the freshly pressed fruit juices. On the edge of town near the A30/M5 junction.

I really like this pub. I always visit this place when I need to stay in town as its right next door to the holiday inn express. The food is typical pub grub and the prices are competitive. Its not posh, but it does good food at good prices which is really enjoyable. The atmosphere is welcoming and inviting. The staff are always really friendly and chatty. The service is quick, but you never feel rushed.

The Barn Owl is very much a food pub, being too far away from town for many local regulars. It is in a mostly commercial area, near the new met office, so a lot of business folk visit for lunch. The food is very good though, as pub food goes, and if you want somewhere with decent food and easy parking, it's worth a visit for lunch or dinner.
