Lovely place with great food and a quirky 'boho' styling. Lunchtime Prix Fixe meals are really good value; wine is slightly on the high side but not extortionate. Staff are friendly and efficient - highly recommended
I really felt at home here, often having to remind myself that I wasn't sitting in somebody's lounge whilst pursuing a food menu! Upon arrival there is an outside decking area, and then you step into a lovely lounge area which has a romantic feel to it with the soft dim lighting, candles and comfy corner sofas with big cushions.
You are given some menus to cast your eye over and then after making your choice you are whisked away to your table by the eccentric maitre d. Whilst you are enjoying a pre dinner drink in the lounge your food is being cooked so when you are called to your table the food is served straight away.
I chose the savoury pancakes which were absolutely delicious and very filling and came with a salad. My partner had the beer battered cod and chips served with tartare sauce - no complaints from him!
We chose apple and blackberry crumble with custard to share which was divine. There was a great selection of desserts on offer such as sticky toffee pudding, Creme Brule and profiteroles.
The service was fabulous - attentive staff who had great personalities who checked in with us every so often.
A real gem!
I'm from Denver Colorado and I'm the first to review this lovely place?
I have to say, I really felt like a local dining here. Considering the name, the interior is surprisingly modern yet cozy. It just feels good to be here. You can smell the wood burning fireplace as soon as you step out of the car, and the cool damp air of the countryside makes you feel like you're about to step into someone's home.
The interior has sleek neutral tones, a mix of wood, glass and slate and tall pillar candles through out the entry lounge area.
There's another lounge area through a doorway that looked darker and intimate, then you head back to the dining area, with rough woods combined with gleaming mirrors and steel.
Oh, the food? It was delicious! Kind of a Brassierre meets Pub menu. Two of us had braised beef that was perfectly cooked and tender. The other two had different fish dishes which they raved about. Then there was dessert, which I enjoy but never love. In this case, it was as delicious as te main course. A Toffee and Date pudding that was really a bread pudding.
All of the courses were perfectly portioned. Enough to satisfy but not overly filling.
Service was friendly, our server in the lounge was spunky and good humored.
The restaurant struck me as an ideal place for a nice dinner with friends, perhaps for a somewhat special occasion. I'm still getting a feel for values in the UK, but this seemed as though it might be a little on the high side, but certainly worth every penny. Oh, and although it was cold and rainy...I still wanted to try out the beautiful patio. Those who can be here in the summer are fortunate!
I'm 2 for 2 on my trip so far...I wonder what the weekend in London will bring!
I have visited this establishment twice. Food was amazing on both occassions. The sea bass and risotto must be tried.
Although the service is very good it can sometimes border on the creepy. Dining as a couple we felt as though we were constantly be watched a little too much and asked if everything was okay much too often. Being interrupted constantly during a romantic meal for two does not sit well with us.
Wonderful place, very stylish and quality food. Slightly expensive but you get what you pay for. Shame about the OTT service.
Looks good but isn't overly great. It is very over priced the service is good but could be better. Also it is out of town so you do have to drive there.
One of my favourite haunts. Excellent Sunday roasts with a quick & friendly service. Decor is stylish and contempary and there are some excellent Prix fixe deals during the week. Highly recommended.
