This is one of the better bars in and around the Bedminster area, though whether that constitutes a hearty recommendation or damning with faint praise is open to interpretation!
The interior is nicely furnished and contemporary compared to some of the wrecks in the area, with plenty of sofas and widescreen TVs with Sky Sports. Indeed, this place is at its best when there's a big match on on a Sunday afternoon, with the large rear patio being another day time draw (there's also a large shed with some pool tables in).
My opinion of this place would be higher but I wandered in here once on a Saturday night, only to be confronted by what can only be described as 'RnB music' and loads of chavs bumping and grinding. You have been warned!
Being located on North Street, you might be mistaken for thinking that Bar Salt is part of a number of bars on that road that have undergone a makeover over past 2 or 3 years in keeping with the regeneration of Bedminster as a hip and trendy place to live. The new Gloucester Road, some might say. Well if you were thinking that, you're wrong.
With all the best intentions in the world, Bar Salt may have wanted to fit into this new urban trendy transformation, but it has failed on pretty much every level. For a start, it's at the wrong end of North Street and in all honesty, closer to East Street not on only geographically, but also in terms of clientele.
There are better beers on the tap, better sofas and chairs dotted around room, probably even better paint on the walls, but unfortunately there are still bouncers on the doors, which just about says it all. Not great.
For those of you who like an unpretentious bar with a lively atmosphere, Bar Salt is the place to go. Without a hint of glamour or sophistication (this can be both a good and a bad thing), the venue 'just is'. Serving reasonably priced food during the day and often showing live sport on a big screen, it is an ideal place to kick back and relax. And if you like to let your hair down to some nineties dance classics, I'd strongly recommend you drop into Bar Salt on a Friday or Saturday night. The atmosphere is always electric and the general consensus is simple: to get trashed and have a good time.
This pub underwent a revamp some 3 or 4 years ago and although it had potential to be a really great bar at the other end of North Street, saving all those who live in that end of Southville having to walk up to the Tobacco Factory, it hasn't lived up to expectations. The music is always really loud, way too loud to hold a decent conversation and the atmosphere is really unfriendly. They do have a few sofas which make it reasonably comfortable but you can't hear yourself talk! There's a beer garden with heaters so its good to go outside for some peace, but I would say that if you like nice relaxed pubs and bars to socialise in, then this is not the place for you. They have bouncers on the doors which is quite unusual for lots of pubs in this area, so not even a great first impression!
An improvement on it's previous bright yellow Scream Pub status but not by much.
It's a little pricey and it doesn't back it up by being a great place to be. It only sells gassy beers and whilst the food sounds great in reality it again isn't up scratch. Avoid at all costs the 'rustic bread' unless you want a Tesco value white bap with balsamic vinegar drizzled on the top.
It still shows the football and it's quite a good place to watch it as you can get a view of the screen from almost anywhere in the pub.
Definitely a place for the younger ones.

This place is known for good food, good company and lively music in the evenings. Food is local and freshly prepared. There's place for everyone vegetarians or meat lovers. The special board changes weekly, and Sunday roast is available every day of the week. Simply amazing!
There are also daily fixed-price meal deals for £5 (5-7pm) and many main meals with starter cost less than £10 per person.
