    First to Review

It says a little something about the Bar du Central that my beloved other half and I ALMOST came to blows over who would review it, since we were both storing up the superlatives to lavish them upon this wonderful little "local" bar close to Pont de l'Alma and a mere spit from the Tour d'Eiffel. We had checked into our favourite little boutique hotel (Hotel de la Tulipe) and, after a grim hour or so FIGHTING our way through the Metro, we decided we really NEEDED a drink, and the concierge (bless him!) directed us to the Bar du Central. Fortunately, from the front, it looks just like dozens of other cafe bars, but when we stepped inside, we were swept off our feet by the friendly, attentive, wonderful service. There was an immediate offer of assistance from at least three waiters, who were sympathetic to our plight and immediately provided the necessary biere to chill our frazzled nerves. And we sat... and we watched. What was immediately obvious was that NO-ONE stopped working for a millisecond. Our barman careened up and down the bar, topping up this, cleaning that, dicing and preparing the other. Replacing bottles, clearing plates... Now, as hard workers ourselves we were EXTREMELY impressed, and when the bar started filling with locals who obviously knew when they were on to a good thing (and were warmly welcomed and immediately seated), we knew this was the bar for us! A little later, aftetr celebrating the beloved's 50th birthday , we returned to the bar for a drink, and, upon remembering who we were, we were seated in pride of place, and, upon discovering it was Philip's big 5-0, a big bowl of peanuts, a bowl of spicy olives and a chocolate cake appeared on the table, along with a bottle of wine chosen by the (equally tasty!) waiter, who would not let us pour our own wine, nope, he HAD to pour it for us! Our evening was made perfect, to a soundtrack of Cafe del Mar and an equisite wine! Please try and find this bar, it is a gem!!
