The Bank of Scotland like the other banks is located in the town centre. The bank is well lit, clean and laid out very well. It is one of the busier banks so waiting in line is to be expected and sometimes they don't have enough tellers on making it a slow process to get your banking done.
The good thing is they have dedicated business tellers in another section so you can skip the normal queue and go straight to that which is always a bonus when you have limited time on your lunch break.
The outside ATM allows free transactions, which is a bonus if you are with other banks.
The Bank of Scotland in Stornoway is situated on the main street in an old (19thc I think) building but inside it's modern, bright and clean.
There are 3/4 teller stations, 2 have seats at them the other 2 are standing only. Unfortunately there's usually only 1/2 tellers there, even when it's busy so 9 time out of ten you have a long wait in the queue, though staff are always friendly and helpful when you get there.
There are also a few dedicated business teller stations, which is handy for business banking and it's also the part to go to if you want to exchange a lot of small change into larger notes though you need to be with hbos to do this.
There's an express deposit system and there's always envelopes ready so it's handy if you just need to deposit cheques of any value or cash (in notes) up to £250.
There are also 3 teller tables for general banking enquiries, new accounts, changes to accounts, setting up direct debits etc. Though there's normally only one teller at a time.
People I know and myself have had a problems with this branch in the past with general banking. These include the setting up of standing orders, where everything should have been processed but somehow the money doesn't come out the day it's due and when you go in to enquire they've managed not to set it up, not helpful when the people you're paying are expecting payment!
Also they managed to change my address to my boyfriends address, without my consent or signature or anything! I think it came about due to crossed wires, perhaps due to us having a joint account but it meant I had access to his mortgage account online, which is really quite worrying.
One free atm outside which can get busy at times.
