    1 check-in here

This is just a quick update, as it was a quick visit, but as you can tell from the rating my love hasn't decreased over the years! It's a fabulous wee shop, with stacks of tempting wools and knits, and all the advice you could wish for. Beginners or experts are welcome as the staff are keen knitters themselves and are more than happy to pass on their wisdom to a budding young wool-artist like myself.

Within minutes we'd sussed out an idea for my first garment, which needles and which wool to use, and she happily mentioned that they also hold classes should I wish to check them out. I adore the pre-mades in here too, and will have to come back to grab something special soon. Once I've mastered the art somewhat I'll also be back to pick up a decent pattern book, rather than buy one for my Mum in the hopes that she'll make all my clothes, as was my previous cunning plan...

Basically, it's friendly, warm, full of all the things you need, and the staff are excellent. Truly, what more could you want?

As a bit of a knitter, I hold Baa Ram Ewe as my favourite place to buy wool in Leeds. Although a very small shop, the atmophere is friendly and really warm and very welcoming. The staff are helpful and offer their advice. Other than wool, they sell dyes, needles, garments made from the wool they stock, and knitting patterns, so you can make them yourself!
They pride themselves on stocking Yorkshire yarn and other good quality wool, and hold regular knitting circles and lessons to those anywhere between beginner and pro. There is a real sense of community in there that almost makes you feel proud to just have stepped foot in there!

Though pricier than other city centre wool shops, the locally sourced wool and the quality of it makes the extra couple of quid worth it. Beware though, having visited Baa Ram Ewe, if you are short of a few bob and go elsewehere, you can sort of feel like you're cheating on them..

When walking into Baa Ram Ewe I really did embarrass myself by howling a huge "awwww". The shop made such a lovely change from all the fast food, wine and beauty businesses in Headingley.

The interior is very quirky using natural woods to compliment the environmentally friendly atmosphere of the products. Baa Ram Ewe stocks Yorkshires finest yarns and knitting kits as well as jumpers, cardigans, shawls and scarves made from the Norths best wool!

There is a real bohemian feel to the shop with relaxed staff and comfy clothing! I understand yarn isn't everyones cup of tea ( I laughed when i wrote that!) but the shop is so cute and has some lovely kits and gifts that your mum or gran might enjoy even if you don't!

Baa Ram Ewe is a welcome contrast from the modern hype surrounding Leeds.

If Leeds' shiny bars, international population and global cuisine have left you lacking a sense of place, and you're seeking a reminder of where you really are, look no further than Baa Ram Ewe. Set in a Yorkshire stone building, this shop/workshop space is pure Dales-gone-cool, stocking a huge range of locally made wools and yarns, artisan knitted goods and crafty accessories. Bravely leading a one-man knitting revolution, Baa Ram Ewe also hosts a programme of workshops teaching everything from Beginners' Knitting to traditional skills like felting and spinning. And if you're in any doubt that knitting is the new drinking, head on down to the Thursday knit night, which can get nearly as busy as Arcadia across the road.

If the name doesn't grab you, amuse you and inform you as to what this place is all about then the minute you step through the doors into this cosy shop, you will definitely know that it's all about wool, and knitting, and all the cute, creative and wonderful things inclusive of this. As a friend of one of those artsy creative types, who has a true appreciation for this kind of thing, I can't say the idea of a wool shop fills me with excitement, yet for said friend, the same type of shop makes her froth at the mouth with the giddy. Assuring me that she'd been assured this was THE place to get creative supplies, I tagged along. I never knew there were so many brands or types of wools and yarns, but as a passenger in this ride of giddy discovery I was pleasantly surprised to discover that all the best wools and yarns in Yorkshire were stocked here, and not to be prejudiced, the rest of Britain's best were also available to purchase. Arty friend was gathering materials for a project, but on the staff's guided tour of patterns, materials and guides, decided to rethink the project and go for a new one altogether, buying everything she needed from Baa Ram Ewe, and was even informed that if she didn't know how to knit there were workshops to get her from knit wit (haha couldn't resist) to competknit - yeah that didn't work did it. And if you decide you're in love with knitting, you can join the knitting club/get together held every Thursday night.
