There are a number of chain restaurants in the Xscape complex and ASK is my favourite of them. It looks the most cosy and appealing from the outside and the food is generally good (Italian).
However, some of the seating is very close together and this can make you feel as though you can't comfortably have a conversation without others listening in.
I have always found the service to be reasonable.
This is one of the smaller branches of the Ask chain I've been into. Unlike many other of its units, this particular branch doesnt have much character and theres little to distinguish it from the other restaurants surrounding it.
Inside is clean and tidy. The food is ok - although quality of food suffers noticably in busier periods. The same complaint also appplies to service. In quiet times, everything is fine, but if they get busy service goes out the window and leadership seems to be lacking.
For what you pay - aside from the ridiculously over priced dessert menu - its not bad, but some dishes are better than others and pasta dishes especially are sometimes wonderful, sometimes awful.
Its not bad, but its certainly nothing special, and I;d only recommend a visit if quiet periods of service.
I have tried it this restaurant twice and both times the service was non existant. Second time round the waitress dropped the entire contents of a plate of hot pasta onto the lap of one of the ladies in our party. Even that did not elicite good service. A pity as it could be an excellent restaurant.
Even though this establishment is a chain restaurant there is nothing standardised and unfortunately falls far far short of average. We were lulled into choosing this restaurant because it was not too busy from first appearances. It turns out the staff can not cope with even a modestly full restaurant. Multiple staff waited us in an erratic manner with no sense of urgency even with a baby sat waiting. The food was mainly bland aside from the starters which were adequate. Drinks once served were incorrect on occasion. The layout is too busy with no room for wheelchair or pram access. When these instances arose the staff did not respond, leaving the kindness of other patrons to take up the slack. Finally the bill was vastly overpriced especially for it's location. Queue for other restaurants instead of enter this one.
I came here for the Xmas do last year. It's a nice cosy restaurant although a little too cramped plus I didn't like the fact we were sat right by the toilets. Other than that, the food tasted like any other Italian restaurant.
The pasta was adequate in portion and the pizza was nice and cheesy and just right for one person. I would recommend this after a film or as a first date.
I went here twice for my 40th birthday (with different people!) & was very impressed by the staff & food. The mushrooms are divine. The pizzas looked huge. It gets very busy later on, we got there early-ish as I have young children.
Me and my husband went here for our tea last week using a '2 meals for £10' voucher from the internet. The food was nice, what you'd expect from an Italian chain restaurant. The service wasn't so good, after our meal it seemed to take ages to get the bill, and then longer still for the waitress to put through our card payment (and it wasn't overly busy). Not sure we'd go back, and if we did, only if we had another voucher.
