For great value and a 'they're bound to have it' reassurance, Argos at Cribbs Causeway is a good resource to the people of Bristol. They sell everything, (even the kitchen sink) in a huge catalogue, you write down the number of the thing you want and they fetch it for you. It's like a super fast mail order service. It's probably this unique service that sells it to you, making you think that you're shopping quickly and efficiently. It's also a great place to pick up anything for Christmas. Be careful not to shop at peak times though, because you could be waiting hours for your item to arrive, with no idea as to how long it is going to take.
This is one of those giant Argos Extra stores that sells just about everything, but funnily enough, nothing I actually want to buy.
I'm surprised this store still does well because the internet sort of covers the service they are offering, with the added convenience of you not having to leave your house. The one thing other high street shops has over internet shopping is the ability to be able to hold and touch the item you are buying, something a lot of people still favour. Not so at Argos. You still have those catalogues you need to find the reference number from and wait as your item comes down a giant conveyor belt.
I think the reason it still pulls in the punters, particularly around the Christmas period, is a lot of people hold on to the misconception that it is cheap. It isn't. Not from my experience anyway and certainly not in comparison to the internet. Plus at Christmas the queues are enormous.
