Amberley Castle is a hotel set in beautiful countryside in the South Downs. As you turn into the long drive up to the castle itself, heading towards the impressive portcullis, you can't help but be impressed by magnificent grounds and building. It's so beautiful here, it doesn't really matter what time of year you visit. If it's sunny, you can admire the views; if it's raining, you can revel in the whole cosiness of the place sheltering you from the elements.
The rooms are beautifully appointed, as in keeping with the castle. It's as far away from a horrible chain hotel as you could hope for. You get four-poster beds, layer upon layer of thick bedding, jacuzzi baths and, in some rooms, a private little turret.
The restaurant in the castle serves modern British food, tying in with the seasons. The locally-reared lamb is particularly well cooked - it just falls off the bone if you even so much as look at it.
I like Amberley Castle so much, I booked it for my wedding. Since we just had a small do, we only needed to book one (large) room out for the ceremony and dinner, but you can book the whole castle to yourself, if you want. The prices for my wedding were very reasonable, and the food and service top drawer.

I cannot add to the previously well written reviews but I would add that I was impressed with this castle when at school, (Moons ago), and we had to do a project on it. Later on, my local art club used this venue, and Amberley village for many painting weekends. Fantastic place to be, which also gives you access to the Wild Brooks for some wildlife painting/photography. Nice lunch in the The Black Horse!!
