Pub Thor is a great irish pub in the o0ld town of nice. Yes, irish not french. seems weird but it was a really great night. We visited the weekend before paddy's day and over there they celebrate all weekend and to show this they did deals on guinness and kilkenny which was brilliant. However, i understand that they do different drink deals each weekend so thats good. Anyway, the thor has two levels inside with plenty of seating and also an outside area which benefits from the morning market covers as well (which they put tables under). Thor is well known in Nice for a number of reasons. The staff are very pleasant, a lot of them are actually irish - if not most of them, the pub itself is lovely with appropriately themed decor and finally and most importantly - they have live music every weekend and on a lot of week days, especially in the summer. Now we went in march and it was busy, so i can only imagine whats its like in tourist season. When we were there we sat outside at first and listened to an australian musician sing and play his acoustic guitar. He was very good and it was very chilled out. He would also play any requests providing he knew the song! He finished at about 9:30pm at which point we found out a band were going to play from 10pm in the upstairs level. So upwe went and got the table right by the stage.
The band were AMAZING. They were without doubt the best band i have ever seen live - and i could see why Pub Thor are famous for their live music. This band play regularly (i checked out there website on my return home).
If you are visiting Nice i recommend you visit this pub and before you leave check out their website to see when bands are on -http://www.akathor.com/ .
ps. If you are interested the band i saw were called ''waste'' and did any songs from travis to blur. They did 'Sultans of Swing' as a musical section whilst the singer took a break and i would go as far as to say that they outplayed Dire Straits!!!!
Popular bar with live music on the main square. Tourists abound, but I am one. The guy played Neil Young's "Tell me why" tonight, which is good enough to warrant the 4 stars.
