So, been here a few times already. I used to live 2 minutes away from here, and it brings back all those memories of Hornsey Rd, the colourful characters, the frequent murders... Now it appears to be gentrifying, what with the Tesco next door and all that. However, Stokey it ain't. A courageous person who opens a restaurant with live music in Hornsey Rd has to be supported, particularly when it's good value, good food and great fun.
A quite small restaurant with a stage where you get live jazz music. You basically get to sit next to the stage, and enjoy jazz (and occasionally bluesy type music). The menu is quite simple: grilled meat and veg, and reasonably priced. Been there a few times, and sometimes there were a few of us (remember to book, as it's small and gets crowded easily), so we sampled some fish, ribs and a veg tagine. The menu changes and you do get the odd special. The food in uncomplicated and nice, and it's quite pleasant to be slurping your ribs while listening to some bebop, or sharing the meal with the musicians when they have a break.
The service is good humoured and all in all the atmosphere is extremely relaxed. Joyful places like this are easy: simple food, music and little attitude. You should definitely try it! Also it closes quite late on weekends
This place is an absolute find! Amazing food, great music, and the nicest friendliest owner you're ever likely to meet. If you want simple delicious food at amazing prices then get down there, listen to some great jazz and have fun!
On this grey, dreary stretch of Hornsey Rd it was a real surprise to find this liitle gem of both an excellent restaurant and a great jazz joint! We have become bored of the usual, glossier London jazz clubs and were interested to discover this place had opened up round the corner. Not sure what to expect we booked a table on the saturday and got there just as the band had started. Its a tiny place but with real atmosphere. The band were great and we were lucky enough to catch a bluenote evening. There was only one waitress on, welater found out the other waitress was ill, but she managed the whole restaurant brilliantly. The food was very fresh all homemade. The calamari, ribs and fish were tasty and the value for money is absurd! The drinks options were quite limited so dont expect too much. A very unexpectedly enjoyable evening at an honest local place. I really hope they do well.
