Another whim visit to eat out and I go here as much as my jeans will let me before cutting me in half!
The food is absolutely amazing and the staff are really welcoming and friendly.
There is a real nice feel to the place with a vinyl jukebox that is free with some great classics to play which is just a nice little added touch to the place.
Quirky pub decorated in a rather eclectic mix of jolly Rodger with horse brasses and other paraphernalia, creating a really cosy atmosphere.
The food was excellent. A fish pie was packed with both smoked and fresh fish and came with plenty of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables and potatoes. My partners choice of cod on a bed of Spanish potato with chorizo, olives and tomatoes, was perfectly balanced and tasty.
The local brew from St Austell is also offered along with clear or cloudy cider.
The Staff were attentive and charming.
Definitely a great find.
One of my favourite pubs. The restaurant with the kaptains cabin is quite a sight, but the upstairs bar isn't bad either and there aren't so many tourists.
We were not planning to visit here for dinner but as the Chapel St restaurant was full we popped over here. Two of our party had been to this famous pub before but only for drinks so we didn't know what to expect from the food. We were pleasantly suprised, this is very good pub grub. The basic menu was good with a range of fresh fish and a varied selection of meat dishes. There was also a large range of daily specials and a good range of local drinks at the bar. Very interesting decor and an all round great pub. Would have got 5 stars but only complaint wad that the portions were huge and the side of veg a bit plain. The staff here were really friendly aswell. A must visit if you are in Penzance.
This pub has a wonderful interior, but the waitress service made it feel somewhat unlike a pub & more of a restaurant. Our meal was very good pub fodder but more expensive than a regular.
Really nice pub : interesting interior & good vibe
Great atmosphere, unique decor, interesting choice of real ales, good pub food... A pub I would certainly recommend. There are many tourists around but there is nothing wrong about that. A lot of locals and regulars seem to fill this place, too, so you find a good mixture of regulars and tourists. I had a good meal every time I visited the Admiral Benbow and so far I have been happy without any exception. The staff are friendly and attentive.
Great place to come and mingle before going to a club. Crowd can be a bit young at weekends.
I have organised and been to many Xmas parties here and it is a real hidden gem in Penzance. Quite a history attached to this pub, I believe it was the first to hear about the Spanish Armada invasion due to its location. Also lots of stories about smugglers! The food is good and friendly service. Very very cosy and intimate with good wine and selection of ale!
Really lovely friendly pub, fantastic interior and excellent food, would highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this place. Ambience++, food-a-plenty and excellent value. From the road looks a bit poky but like a tardis when you get inside.
Definitely worth a visit and better early than late as it seemed to get quite busy mid-evening and tables for food were then in short supply - no wonder.
I would not recommend this place to eat and be totally blown away by the experience. I think that the place is good for visitors in the summer mainly for it's unique history. However, I do not think locals spend an awful lot of time in the restaurant. The upstairs pub is a different place, not bad for a quiet pint during the week, and if you are young, a lively place to go on a weekend!
Worth a try, been here quite a few times, each new time i visit i make a note not to go back but i end up giving it one more chance...!
