I cannot recommend this hostel, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay in Barcelona I strongly advise you to look elsewhere!
We arrived late on Friday night to the hostel having booked the room through hostel bookers. We had been led to believe that we could pay for the room using a credit card but arrived to find ourselves in a reception that looked like we had stepped back in time to the 1930s and no sign of any form of technology. The lady on reception advied us that they accepted cash only and wanted the whole amount up front plus an additional tax of 50 euros per person!
We advised her that this 50 euros per person had not been mentioned at all at the time of booking and we had confirmation of the total price including tax that we were to pay. The lady promptly began to shout at us in spanish and hold up a pre prepared sign in English just reading that all guests must pay an extra 50 euros each per stay.
It is lucky that we had two people in our group that are fluent in Spanish and after a lengthy argument with the lady and her son in spanish, during which we advised them we would find elsewhere to stay they eventually backed down and honoured our original room booking. So be prepared for this to happen on arrival if you are staying here.
Our party was made up of 8 people so we had booked an entire dorm to ourselves and were led to believe on the website that this meant we had our own bathroom. We checked this once we arrived at the hostel and were shown our room and own bathroom. The bathroom was absolutely filthy although to give the hostel owners their due they promptly cleaned it once they saw our face.
We locked the main door to our dorm and bathroom and decided to get an early night as we were all tired from travelling. It wasn't until 3.30am that morning that we realised the bathroom was not only for our use, we were awoken by the dorm next door banging loudly on our locked door as we had shut them out of the only bathroom! It transpired that the one toilet and shower actually had to be shared between 3 dorms- so 24 people!
Our dorm itself was dirty, the couch actually smelt strongly of wee, there was a strong smell of fish in one of the bedrooms which as we couldn't find the source of the smell i'm led to believe could indicate an electrical fault, the mattresses were so well worn that there was a body shape permanently inprinted into them and the windows would not shut properly due to rust.
We had a fabulous weekend in Barcelona and I can't wait to return but none of this was due to this hostel and there is no way I would step foot inside it again.
